Maybe it's because they feel confident that they can convince Howard to opt in to stay with the Rockets. He would be giving up a lot of money if he's traded here, and the Rockets feel they can put a good team around him. There is no other all star out there better to get at the moment than Howard.

Because you're asking if the only reason we want a superstar is for the freaking All-Star Game. The All-Star Game means jack diddly crap for the long-term of this team. However, acquiring a star (even if he doesn't stay) does a LOT more for the team than just giving us an All-Star. It gives us a direction.

I dont know what to say. But I don't want a rental in Dwight Howard. He didn't want to be in HOuston in the first place. So its no point in trading all of our assets for a guy that don't want to be here in the first place. He'll be like a Steve Francis playing in Vancouver.

*He would be giving up a lot of money if he's traded here BUT decides to leave the Rockets in the offseason.

    Sorry, my mistake.

No way, that direction is completely lost when an all star leaves. Look at Orlando, they're going a completely different way once Howard leaves.

The Rockets feel that they can convince Howard to stay because he will be giving up a lot of money but Im pretty sure Howard knows that in the first place. I think he will make a lot of his money in endorsment and he probably prefers to get pay a little less to play somewhere he wants than to make a little more just to play somewhere he doesn't want.

Like the big three down in Miami, they all gave up tons of money so they can play with each other. Same with Dwight. If he wants to play elsewhere, money can't really convince him at all. Since its Dwight Howard, he's immature and childish and he don't even know where exactly he wants to play. So even if he doesn't know where exactly he wants to be, he knows that Houston is not where he wants to be so its nearly impossible to convince him.

Ofcourse selling tickets is part of it. Why do you think Les specifically told Morey to stay competitive instead of sucking for high picks? Keeps Toyota Center crowded a little.

But ofcourse Rockets are ex-champs. Great organization and they know how to build a team around a big.

It's all part of the business.

Plus with Dwight Howard, I don't want another superstar with a back problem that wants out of Orlando. We're already had that problem to begin with and it didn't work out so well. BTW, Yao Ming was a much better player than Dwight Howard is now and Yao couldn't even take this team to the finals in the West. No way Dwight Howard can right :D

I'd like you to find me a team that is championship quality with no all-stars on the roster.

So maybe, just maybe...the Rockets are trying to find an all-star so that they can start becoming relevant again.

FWIW, of the names mentioned, I think JSmoove would be a cool allstar caliber player to have. Help replace CBud's hops

I'm not saying we shouldn't get an all-star. I just don't understand why we are trying to rent one that doesn't even want to stay.

You can't grow stars on trees. If you want one to stay you actually have to get one. That's the way it works. some stay, some leave. Something has to change because we're not going anywhere.

Because the chance to get someone of his caliber doesn't come around very often. So of course you kick the tires and think about the possibilities. Our front office thought about and decided it was a good plan to go ahead and take the risk. They don't just charge head first into things without thinking, these people got their jobs by making smart and rational decisions.

They stay if you draft them or sign them. They leave if you rent them.

Couple reasons...for one, the Rockets are a borderline playoff team. Add one of the top players in the league, and they become competitive. Winning cures all...just show him youre working towards a championship team and that will go a long way. Second, you hope that during the season, he warms up to living in Houston. Nice weather during the winter can go a long way. Third, when he does become a free agent as season's end, no team will be able to offer as much as the Rockets...money talks, specially when there is no income tax in Texas. And lastly, trying to swing for the fences is much better than remaining a number 9 seed for the next few years...taking a couple rookies around the 12-16 range isnt going to do anything for us.

But Dwight was drafted by Orlando, so how is it possible that he is leaving them by your logic then?
