http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/rssstory.mpl/sports/3210751 June 3, 2005, 9:58PM Yao hires former Rockets strength coach Associated Press Houston Rockets star Yao Ming, looking to become a stronger player, has hired the team's former strength and conditioning coach as his personal trainer. Anthony Falsone resigned from the Rockets last month. "He's worked with me for a long time," Yao told Houston television station KRIV tonight. "If you go see the posters they show the fans outside, the difference between the first year and right now shows the good work he did." Falsone, who will travel with Yao to China, said he hopes to help take the player to another level. "In strength and conditioning, the thing that makes you successful is the consistency over long periods of time," Falsone said. "With Yao, now my situation is going to be when he's in China, I'm there. When he's here, I'm here. That's availability to him 100 percent of the time." Yao average 18.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during the regular season. The Rockets lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs.
We hope (pray, rather) you do too, Tony. I've been hearing that Yao has been inspired watching the Suns/Spurs series to take his game to another level. Here's hoping Yao comes back this summer somewhat improved.
any news on whos replacing Falsone? Also anybody know the reason why he resigned? Curious about that.
Word is that he punched a ballboy out cold, and the rockets were forced to let him go.... but he's done a lot to help the team over the years, too bad he was fired, but maybe he was given a second chance (to kind of stay with the team) as yao's personal strength coach....

Sina article. There's a mention in the Amare vs Yao thread, but here's a more in-depth translation from another board. As much as I like to hear that Yao is motivated this summer. What would make me feel better is if Yao didn't need Amare to motivate himself. It just makes it seem as if he hasn't been working as hard as he could in past summers. Yao needs to be more self-motivated, rather than relying on other people to motivate him.
I have known Falsone for 16 years. I seriously doubt this to be true, and if he did indeed hit a ballboy I can assure you he was strongly provoked. He told me that he wanted to be able to spend more time with his wife and kids.
