Didn't see anything via a quick search, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one out there. Going to be out there this coming weekend, and the BBS never fails. Can't miss spots or hangouts? Must-sees? Words of warning? Note - Brewers not in town. Astros-Cubs not on the docket either Thanks in advance!
Nope... they fail at everything over in Milwaukee. The only thing that's nice around this time of year is the weather.
you just missed summer fest. oh well. nothing really. maybe go see the lake. stadium. there is a zoo. see if any concerts you want to see at the rave. other than that, not too sure. go to casino?
Just got back from Milwaukee. I liked it. Very laid back. We stayed at the Pfister Hotel, near the lake. Kinda reminded of Houston (actually Wisconsin in general reminds me of Texas). Just a warning -- this a not a touristy city. There's plenty of stuff do but if you go expecting Chicago, plan on being extremely dissappointed. The city is broken up into neighborhoods. We spent most of our time down in the Historic Third Ward, which was easily my favorite part of the city. Extremely walkable, with plenty of shopping and restaraunts. I definitely reccomend stopping into the Third Ward Market. Stop into the Wicked Hop for a couple beers and nachos. Seriously, these were the best nachos I've had up north. Thick chips and good ole' Wisconsin cheese (nothing better). Further north in the city is Brady Street which has plenty of bars and restaraunts. For breakfast/brunch I would definitely reccomend the Lake Park Bistro near Locust street. Downtown is kind of empty. We liked eating at Mo's Irish Pub, nothing special, just a pub on the river. Lakefront Brewery is near downtown on the river if you're looking for a brewery tour in that area. There's a neat used bookstore near Milwaukee and Wisconsin called Downtown Books. If you are looking for somewhere downtown to get drinks, I reccomned Blu on the 23rd floor of the Pfister or Charro. Thats about I'll got right now. I've heard good things about the zoo. And of course, there are numerous breweries in the area. And like Sland said, Chicago is about an hour and half Amtrak ride away, I think its $44 roundtrip. Have fun man
In case you haven't check this site out emjohn. http://www.milwaukee.com/attractions/ looks like a nomination for third ward as well from their site.
Go on a Segway tour. Once the tour starts, ask if you can dispense with the tour and they may take you out to the park at Lake Michigan and let you run wild for an hour or so.
You can have snowball fights with Squiqqy, and maybe contaminate the national beer supply. Other than that, I don't know that there's much to do in Milwaukee. Whatever the case, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to make your dreams come true. Milwaukee is very laid back and downtown can be like Houston was in the 80's, especially at night. Even though Summerfest is over, there are still many festivals held on the Maier grounds during the rest of the summer. One thing people should do when they go to Milwaukee is try and find a good fish fry on Fridays. Milwaukee is known for the fish fry, it's just trying to find a good one nowadays that is not easy.
Here's another great website, OnMilwaukee.com. It's a daily website. This was their big story: What screams "Wisconsin" more than fried fish? Entering its 45th year, the festival billed as the World's Largest One-Day Outdoor Fish Fry draws nearly 60,000 people to the Harbor, Upper and Lower Lake Park areas of picturesque Port Washington. If you are into architecture, historicmilwaukee.org has really cheap but informative tours of Milwaukee.
BBS comes through again - thanks! Good stuff! I'm LOVING the projected forecast....pleading with any and all gods that it holds. I'll see if I can't arrange a visit with Senator Kohl
I was driving through Milwaukee once and thought I might look around a little on the spur of the moment. I somehow managed to not find downtown at all.
