I totally agree with you regarding the space that Yao allows between himself and Boozer. I'm in agreement with JVG's choice to use Yao on Boozer (rather than have him follow Okur out to the perimeter and leave the paint open) but I'd rather see him close the gap a little.

I don't think that Yao is capable of sticking to him like glue wherever he goes...but he could move closer and put a hand on him when Boozer isn't on the move. I'm not saying that Yao doesn't do this sometimes...just that I've seen him get burned too many times this series playing off of him because of Boozer's stationary decoy.

I thought for a while that letting Hayes or Howard take him man to man was the answer. However, I realized that you can't have Yao out of the paint, wondering the perimeter, relying on shorter guys (that aren't as threatening to driving guards) to protect the basket.

Not to mention...Yao would be winded as hell by the time he got back on offense chasing perimeter-minded big men.

If Yao plays Boozer too tight 15 feet out, Boozer will blow by him. Yao has to give him space and force him to take jumpers.

What about when Boozer hits 5 j's in a row because he's given too much space? Shouldn't Yao alter his coverage in some way??

The Rockets could double Boozer.....at the high post and stop those drives, or just have one of the other Rockets cheat over a bit to stop em.

Or Yao could realize that he ALWAYS goes left and cover it up.

True. Yao should get used to guessing left when Boozer is making his move...we've seen that this is the case.

As for other defenders cheating over to help on Boozer and cutting off the drives...have you noticed how far the Jazz spread the floor? It's obviously very difficult for the help defenders to make it back from the perimeter.

I'm totally convinced that we should bench Battier and Hayes for more solid contributors on the defensive end....namely Spanoulis and Novak.

And I'm totally joking. Just making the point that the Jazz are effectively spreading the floor and/or creating screens that even the likes of Battier can't recover from.

Can we switch up on defenders every now and then on Boozer like how Utah does Mcgrady?

    Yao / Hayes / Battier / Howard?

    No.

Better to give up the jumper than to give up the lay-up. Got to play the percentages.

Jazz are an excellent jump shooting team, and Boozer is capable of making the pass. Plus, when you start double-teaming, the Jazz will get the offensive boards.
