No it does not do that. It's an electronic book so you would read it. The newest version does do text to speach but not the other way around. My Kindle is quite possibly my most favoritest thing I own. Great, great, great product.
I read a ton of books, so my wife got me a Kindle. I was a little wary at first that it would end up being a useless gadget, but about 5 months later, I still read it just about every day. Its great. There are lots of free books out there, and the wireless wispernet with Amazon is great. It certainly feeds by reading addiction. However, for your purposes Batman: I don't think it records audio that way.
I really don't know if I could find a use for it - I like "real" books, but maybe eventually I'll make the switch. I've heard rumors that Apple may be working on a ebook reader like the Kindle. I don't know how true it is or if it'll just be a tablet PC or something.
Can you run PDF's on a Kindle? I download PDF books often from the internet and it would be convenient to use it on something like this.
Actually I guess that would be a good reason to have one. Books tend to weigh you down on long trips if you take more than a few. lol.
i can see why people would want kindle but idk, im kind of the guy who actually wants to hold an actual book. its like the difference between ordering movies and actually buying the dvds.
I have a friend going to France for the summer and I was telling her to get a kindle for the trip, so she wouldn't have to carry a ton of books. Her research showed she wouldn't be able to buy the books while overseas, she would have to download them all before she went. Does anyone know if this is true?
From what I've read, the wireless will not work abroad. You can download the ebook on a computer and transfer using USB though.
I have to admit, I wasn't keen on the idea of the e-readers at first (eye strain, etc), but after checking out a few, I'm really impressed. It's like looking at a printed page, not like reading a pdf off a computer monitor. My wife's all about getting one, but she also is drawn to the Sony competitor.
thought i would bump this. does anyone here have any of the other popular ones (particularly the sony)? it seems the kindle is the most expensive so i'm curious if that is reflective of a superior quality over the competitors.
I'm leaning towards purchasing a Sony Reader. The Sony reader allows you to upload pdf files through a usb. I don't think you can do that with the Kindle. The kindle makes you email the file so that it can be converted by Amazon. Amazon charges a fee for the conversions. This is a great way for Amazon to generate revenue at my expense. The Sony reader is also smaller, which is another plus.
I want one, but unfortunately can't afford one at the moment. DOD, I understand your love for holding books, but they clutter my life so much. I looked at the Sony E-reader and the Illiad also. If I ever get my house refinanced hopefully I will have some money to save up for one
I love my Kindle so I am biased and feel it is the best product out there. I've never read a pdf file on my Kindle nor have I wanted to or ever thought that it may be a good idea to do so. I use mine to read books and newspapers. As far as getting used to not reading a "book", I actually prefer the Kindle to a normal book because it is easier to hold. You never have to worry about holding the book the right way to keep it open properly or turn pages. The fact that I don't have to keep a million paper books around as well is nice. When we go on vacation I have an entire library at my disposal without having to pack a ton of books.
