Austin-East shooting: Bodycam released, no officers charged | wbir.com It was probably justified, but they did lie about the whole thing: Police: Student fired at officers at Tennessee school, was killed | FOX 2 (fox2now.com) It wasn't a kid who shot the officer it was another officer. There was another student in the bathroom what if the cop had hit him?
It said it wasn't clear if he shot or it fired during the struggle. In any case no point of shooting more shots in close quarters with other officers and students.
watch the video you linked to. It looks like the the gun was fired while he had his hand in his pocket. You can actually here it go off, then all the cops freek out, then the cop fires the gun.
That video was crazy, this shows what happens when you are transparent and get the info out as quick as possible. I still have to wonder about the Cop who shot, not saying the initial shot was wrong but he did not give a **** about anybody with that 2nd shot. Which again begs the question of how scared was he? No way that is how he was trained, that was a panic.
He's a school resource officer which is a glorified security guard. I bet you he hasn't touched his gun the whole time he's had the job. I'm sure once he heard the kids gun go off, he freaked the F out. He's not a good cop. Should be fired for the second shot, but shouldn't be criminally disciplined.
It was a real officer Clabough that fired the shots. SRO Willson is the one injured. The kid fell to the ground and Clabough fired again when the kid turned, thinking the kid was about to shoot the officer in the hallway.
Seeing the video I can't fault the LEO who shot. It definitely looks like the gun that was in Thompson's hoodie went off as you can see the fabric of the pocket moving. I agree it was likely because of the struggle but that means that he actually has his finger on the trigger and at that point could easily start firing more. Regarding the second shot I'm actually surprised the LEO didn't fire more given that other LEO were still struggling with Thompson.
One of the biggest things to come out of BLM is that PD are releasing video much faster. We saw the video of shooting of Daunte Wright come out within a day and same with the shooting of Ma'Kiah Bryant. In one case it clearly implicates the LEO and the other it appears to justify the LEO. My understanding of the training is if you shoot you continue to shoot until the threat is stopped. That's why I'm surprised he didn't shoot more.
