anime has nothing on this: <iframe width="420" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5Q84oP5JilU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Started watching anime again and just finished Claymore. Probably one of my favorites despite it ending a bit abruptly. For those who really enjoyed Claymore, what else do you recommend? I've also really enjoyed Trinity Blood, Black Lagoon, and Cowboy Bebop. Seen some of the other popular ones: Death Note, Code Geass, FMA, Samurai Champloo.
Haven't seen an anime since I had Netflix a few months back been wanting to get back into it. Really want to see Cowboy Bebop, I thought Samurai Champloo was awesome. Netflix had a lot of good ones on there. Gurren Lagann, Death Note, Shigurui, Bleach(Sans fillers), and Code Geass were all entertaining. My favorite is probably Baccano!, such an interesting story with awesome characters.
Fate/Zero. Absolutely brilliant and is going on this winter. I cannot say it enough - my interest in anime in general is meh, but I'm a massive sucker for anything made by the studio Type Moon. And it's an actual faithful and brilliant adaptation of their works, unlike the bullcrap that's Fate/Stay Night.
From my understanding claymore ended quickly because the manga is still not finished. I hope it will get the FMA: Brotherhood treatment down the road. If you like Claymoore I guess you will like Blood+ and Darker than Black.
If you're also wiling to read Manga, then read Claymore manga. It continues where the anime left off. Just check any of the online manga sites and they should have the English version available. Otherwise, off the top of my head for serious setting, action type of anime are Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, Darker than Black, and Seirei no Moribito. Plus as Kojirou said earlier Fate/Zero which is airing right now. It's not finished, but if you like it you can check out its related works Kara no Kyoukai and Fate Stay/Night.
Thanks for some of the advice guys on which anime to look out for.. I'm currently d/l Fate/Zero and found a great website to d/l from.. http://www.myanimelinks.com Can any of you recommend anime sites that are better or equal to? I like d/l anime torrents for my girls who love anime.

Hah, thread got bumped the day I started traveling for Christmas. Now I have a lot of responding to do... Yeah, I loved the heck out of Claymore. Just a great straightforward action one. The Teresa bits were particularly strong. And I loved Clare fighting Rigaldo. I see you've already watched Black Lagoon, that would have been my next rec. Berserk is a bit older, but that's still a really badass series. The manga is even better. You could also try Elfen Lied. It's a little schizo as a show, but really very enjoyable. The opening scene is one of the most violent things I've ever seen. Check out Gunslinger Girl and Ghost in the Shell as well. If you liked Baccano!, you definitely need to see Durarara!!. Same company, very much the same style. Even more enigmatic, if that's possible, but really excellent. Yeah, we can all hope they will continue the Claymore anime when the series is finished. I'd love to see it happen. Darker Than Black was good... not my favorite, but it's Studio Bones, and Yoko Kanno did the music. Both of those things usually mean the show is impressive, and it is... just didn't have the intangibles for me. I watched the first half of Blood+ (26 out of 50 or so episodes) and was underwhelmed.
Just finished watching Black Lagoon. Pretty entertaining throughout but the plot at the end got pretty meh. Guess I'll start up on some cowboy bebop next.
I'm bored, so I thought I'd put up my favorite anime opening and ending sequences. Feel free to add your own. Note that the sequences I'm listing here have nothing to do with how much I like the show. Many of my favorite shows simply don't have very compelling intros or outros. Top 10 Openings (Alphabetical order): Baccano! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7zNQ37iwxLY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Baccano's intro does a lot of things well. First, it's fast and dynamic. Second, it has a catchy jazz tune. Thirdly, it's focused primarily on showcasing the show's characters themselves, rather than actors or directors, which helps create a further sense of immersion. Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rSIPPi6DXbY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Good energy here, with the added interest/unintentional comedy of some Japanese guys who clearly don't speak English very well trying their damndest to sing English lyrics. There's something endearing about that. But I especially like it for the quick little shots of ordinary-looking folks acting slightly goofy. See especially the shot around 25 secs. I just love that woman and her mop... makes me smile every time. Dennou Coil <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/3801266?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0" width="400" height="225" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe> A lovely song that manages to capture the sometimes sombre mood of the show. It's one of the slower sequences on my list, but it's well-drawn and fits the show well. Durarara!! (OP 2) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BLc_fxruxiw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Like the intro for Brain's Base's other show on this list -- Baccano! -- this sequence has wonderfully dynamic transitions, and also focuses on the show's characters rather than credits. Eureka Seven (OP 1) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CvQyJKBfLro" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I really like the song here... seems just about perfect for an intro sequence of this type. It builds nicely from being slower and more intimate at the beginning to more energetic and climactic at the end. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NiiFtS22yyM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Sometimes I think they used a bit too much CG for this one, but it's an impressive song, written by Yokko Kanno and performed by Russian singer Origa. Ghost in the Shell: Second Gig <iframe frameborder="0" width="560" height="322" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/xezg5i"></iframe> They've gotten away from the overuse of CG in the second series opening for GitS, but kept the same great songwriter and performer. This may be my favorite intro sequence on the list. Great Teacher Onizuka (OP 1) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4CNutWhmlqM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> A sentimental favorite of mine, GTO was one of the first shows I watched all the way through. Fun song by L'Arc~en~Ciel, and there's some great imagery here... especially the part at the end when he draws a target on his stomach and shoots at himself in the mirror. Love it. Paranoia Agent <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-anabfAg06U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I frequently see this one listed on different lists of top anime opening sequences, partly because it's so creepy. However, it helps if you've seen some of the show, otherwise you might not not understand the creepy aspect of it: specifically, that it's a very dark show where many characters get deeply depressed or despairing... and yet the title sequence shows them all mindlessly laughing. The more of the show you've seen, the more disconcerting the intro becomes. RahXephon <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CxfIJr1RYwc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Fitting that a show that focuses so much on music should have a compelling opening sequence. This one's just good all-around. Interesting images, great song, the whole package. Honorable mentions: Black Lagoon, Claymore, D.Gray-Man (OP 2), Kino's Journey, Moribito, Texhnolyze, Wolf's Rain Top 6 Closing Sequences (Alphabetical order): Okay, so I had intended to do a top 5 closing sequences -- because there just aren't as many good closing sequences around as opening sequences -- but after considering all my options, I just couldn't narrow it down to five. So it's a top six. Sue me or something. Durarara!! (ED 1) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7uUKL7w7ElM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> It's definitely visually interesting, with the vertical scroll-down through the cast, with each character propping the others up. I don't mind the song either, although it's certainly j-pop with extra j-poppiness. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/V2QqiVxVtQ8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Another great Yokko Kanno theme. Nothing too complex here, just a good song and a few nice stills. Pardon the Spanish subtitles. Le Chevalier D'Eon <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VWCRd1xQkEM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Possibly my favorite ending sequence. The show itself is historical fiction, and so portrays many real historical characters. This ending sequence gives the birth and death dates of the historical characters, which helps to further pull you into the reality of it all. Plus the song here is really wonderful, very haunting. Mobile Suite Gundam SEED (ED 1) <iframe frameborder="0" width="560" height="420" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/x2k033"></iframe> I really like this one for a number of reasons. First, I think the song is catchy. Second, as the video shows, the song usually started playing when the last bit of the episode was being played... and there's something about the way they lead into it that way that just really works well. Lastly, the whole scrolling effect just works really well, because it shows you all the characters and reminds you of all the players involved. And as a bonus to the show's animators, it was easy to do, since it's basically just one long still frame. They managed to do a lot with very little. Texhnolyze <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Rh1hoNwFfg8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Texhnolyze is my favorite anime ever, and this is one of my favorite closing sequences. The song is by Gackt -- most of whose music I hate -- but this ballad is really haunting and wonderful. The visuals are simple but pretty, and fit well with the show. Wolf's Rain <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PJnrbVChWsk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Another gorgeous Yokko Kanno theme. Damn, she's good. Again, very simple visuals here... just credits and a slow motion shot of a wolf running through different seasons. But it's another case where simple is good. Honorable mentions: Claymore, Death Note (ED 1), Moribito, RahXephon
just watched season 1 of Highschool of the dead, and i have to say, it's awesome. It's got action, drama, some comedy, and a dash of nudity/hentai? Still it's really good.
Yes yes yes watch Beck (Mongolian Chop Squad), it has lots of references to basically everything related to music and a live action movie of the anime came out 2 years ago. The anime is only one season long and only covers half of the manga but it's still a good anime to watch.
I think the technical term you're looking for is fanservice.™ Of which High School of the Dead clearly has plenty. It does look amusing.
