Codman mentioned Chalmers and Hinrich both as potential additions at the PG position. My concern is that Chalmers can't shoot the 3-pointer anymore. But as potential backups, I wouldn't mind either of those guys.
Goudelock was not just not an NBA caliber player, despite his prowess overseas. Good luck to him in future endeavors.
Do we have to have only guys that can shoot 3s? I would like a couple of gamers on the squad to mix it up. Guys that just make plays. Chalmers has hit some big 3s with the heat in his day. Might be good to have a vet to call on sometimes.
this was an obvious move to clear the logjam on the wing: ariza-brewer-dekker harden-gordon-KJ hopefully KJ takes the next step forward and is able to replace brewer. it all depends on his 3pt shooting. we also have a logjam in the post: capela-nene-harrell-onuaku ryno-dmo-beasley maybe onuaku goes unsigned and plays with RGV or in china... maybe beasley gets cut (but i doubt that, he's such a good fit for MDA), maybe dmo doesn't get matched (doubt that too), or maybe trade young guys like capela or harrell for a PG.
Informing him he'll be released without actually releasing him signals he is probably going to be traded and then released. They're going to keep him on board until a determination is made on a trade or signing. And perhaps a trade is already agreed to in principle but can't be completed until another acquisition is complete.
I wouldn't say he's PROBABLY going to be traded, but I do agree that not actually releasing him does allow the Rockets an extra 3 weeks or so to use him as salary filled in a trade IN CASE ONE HAPPENS. As Feigen noted, the likely reason for informing Goudelock now was to allow him more opportunity to line up a better gig for next season, whether overseas or maybe even on another NBA team. Basically, this was the Rockets doing Goudelock a solid.
