Drug test that clown. Dre is one of the best/gifted wrs ever. He would have T.O. stats if he had a qb.
Congrats on a great career, Dre, and thanks for balling out for the Texans all those years. On a side note, how bad are the Jags, that Andre would rather retire than play for them next year?!?
And that's his biggest problem. The assumption was that he'd have a few more productive seasons and it just never happened. I would agree that he's behind Moss, Owens, Megatron, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Wes Welker (simply due to being a Patriot), Larry Fitzgerald, and as you said, he'll end up behind many more as a new generation of elite WR's pops up. His low TD total was always going to be a problem, but the fact that he did so poorly in his final years just put the final nail in the coffin. If he gets in, great, if not, it's totally unacceptable.....unlike Jeff Bagwell not being in the HOF.
I'd add Harrison as far as numbers Are you arguing "will" or "should"? Numbers-wise, Dre's only true advantages vs the older guys are 1) All-Pro selections and 2) 1500-yard seasons. Dre has 5 total (2 and 3). None of Fitz, Boldin, Ward, Marshall. Wayne, Smith etc have more than 3, and only 1 player has 3 (Marshall). I think he "should" get in, but Schaub's arm and Kubiak's system may've cost him too many TDs. * also Dre has those 2 seasons as Yards-Leader. Those other guys have One or None.
He was an absolutely beast for us. The Texans wasted the early parts of his career with Carr, and Schaub/Kubiak were prolific in terms of yards but never gave him the TD opportunities. The first legend that this team has ever had and that's why it's especially important that we honor him in some way.
Kubs offense was always run first. Arian also didnt have to rely on QBs like Carr and Schaub to throw to him. Schaub had a couple of pretty good seasons, but in the end-zone, they for some reason never called Andre's #.
Career TDs Foster - 68 Johnson - 70 Running backs typically get more TDs than WRs, easily. Check the league leaders each season.
I was speaking on the numbers as Texans and here is another nugget Arian had more receiving touchdowns than Andre in 2014. Andre also had 5 more seasons as a Texan.
Considering system, QB-reliance, and a RB's general nature of scoring more TDs than WRs.... do you have a point?
Numbers aren't really his issue - other than his glaring lack of TDs (which is a big issue). I think playing well for an anonymous, mostly unsuccessful franchise that rarely offered him a large stage, and, when it did, he rarely took full advantage of it were always going to be large hurdles for him. I just don't think he has much of a profile outside of Houston.
The picture is great and all, but these two gifs will probably go down as the greatest Texans gifs ever. I can watch these 50 years from now, and still be amazed!
Who cares about HOF? Bring him and Arian back and retire them as Texans. Settle Demeco's case and bring him back too. Start a Texans' ring of honor.
A sports fan really said this. The ring of honor will happen soon enough. Arian and Andre are the franchise's first great player(s) to retire. Weird their careers ended within days of each other.
I loved Andre! He made some unbelievable catches in his prime. He didn't have the quarterbacks Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, or Reggie Wayne had, so comparing him to them isn't really doing him justice. What he did with so little was awesome. He was the guy who could be counted on to jump above his defenders and come down with the ball back in the day. He could make a mediocre quarterback look good. I congratulate you Andre, and thank you for being a Texan for so many years!!!!!!!
He was incredibly consistent. You could pencil him in for nearly 100 yards every game. Also, he was almost always in top 10 in first downs among WRs during his prime (including first and second once each). From 2006-13 the only times he wasn't were his injury shortened years, I believe.
