His offensive game has not improved one bit! I cant see how anyone can say he is better than Yao. Dwight needs to stop listening to Ewing and hire Dream in the off season. I also do not understand why Ewing gets as mush praise as he does.

Has the word "defense" been used yet in this thread? Dwight Howard is a defensive player first. He doesn't disappear on that end of the court. His offense is just a bonus.

There is no one else really close to bringing what he brings at the center spot when both sides of the court are taken into consideration.

Dwight also plays in the East!! He is getting his first true test of the playoffs now and this is how he responds. One on one Yao is dominant by far.

If he is a defensive player why were the Celtics running lay up drills the entire game?

That basically sums it up (of course, along with the fact that he's always injured). The East first 2 rounds are pathetic thrashing of teams that should not be in the playoffs.

    Bucks? Hawks? Bulls? Seriously?

i appreciate a defensive minded player that can still put points on the board.

when dwights shot is not falling he is still one of the best on the defensive end. when yao's offensive game is struggling he doesn't contribute as much as dwight on he defensive end.

5 blocks tonight with a clutch block on rondo and great d on kg down the stretch t force hi into a tough fadeway and the magic only lose by 4 with dwight having a tough offensive night with shard going 0-6 from 3. defense keeps you in games when shots aren't falling if dwight is getting 20 o 30, that's just a bonus.

i guess it's just different strokes for different folks.

Perkins, Sheed, and Garnett shot a combined 9-29. It wasn't Dwight who was getting burned.

This is how I feel about the Dwight-Yao comparison.

    Dwight Howard:

    Scoring - C+
    Rebounding - A
    Defense - A

    Yao Ming

    Scoring - A
    Rebounding - B
    Defense - B

Fans overrate Dwight because he's so dominant on two ends of the floor, but fail to realize that Yao is also formidable on those categories and is more balanced.

Very well put desi tmac91. I can live with that comparison. All due respect though Hobbs Perkins and Sheed are offensive Juggernauts though.

Funniest thing I heard all week was this guy telling me if you put Dwight Howard on Cleveland they would win a Championship. This is without LeBron.

I think Yao is little weaker on rebounding, while Dwight is a little weaker on scoring. Though, I have to say Dwight is more overrated than Yao has ever been.

Posters on this site often, claim you can take Yao out of the game, easily with fronting, but not in every game, because Yao still destroyed some teams, like the Blazers, Warriors, or Bobcats. Plus, fronting is only a good temporary defense, if the other players are hitting their jump shots or getting easy lay-ups, it severely exposes your defense, if you do not have another shot block presence.

For Dwight, I think we can conclude, if you have really strong players in the paint or a large front line or big bodies, you can take him out of the game, almost just as easily. His point total was very mediocre in that Bobcat series and is probably going to look similar in this series as well. When you star center is only scoring 6 to 10 points a game, and he is not in foul trouble. Raises a big question mark.

By that logic Kendrick Perkins is better than Yao.

Yao has a career 19.1 scoring avg. That's at least an A-
