I guess I'm further along in the "TWD sucks now but I keep watching in case it might get good again" lifecycle than you. I appreciate the fact that there are a bunch of dorks who speak in a half-assed medieval manner ruled by a hobo with a pet tiger. The absurdity of it makes me at least crack a smile, which is far more emotion than the show has been able to pull out of me since they got to Alexandria (Negan's introduction notwithstanding).
if the whole king ezekiel/kingdom shtick seems comically absurd and unrealistic it is b/c it is right out of the comic. they toned-down neagan quite a bit for the show, but looks like they are going full-on with the kingdom. i was wondering how they were going to do the tiger. i figured they would make the tiger a big-ass dog or something so they would not have to CGI it.
yeah, i've been in TWD sucks now phase for a good while and, just like you, watching it to watch it at this point in hopes of it getting better. I haven't read the comic because i don't want it to ruin the show, but i guess if it was from the comic then its good they havent strayed so far away.
Dialogue was cornier than I remembered. Maybe I missed something but I couldn't help but laugh as Rosita suddenly turned into a bomb specialist at the drop of a hat.
That's a smile on Grime's face. "You call yourself a damn king! You sure as hell don't act like one!" as though "acting like a king" means heedlessly rushing off to aid Rick in his war on the Saviors rather than thinking of the welfare of his people.
He was smiling because that group had guns and looked ready to fight (eventually against Negan) - right?
Haha, here's what I do... Visit this thread and based on the level of complaints it will determine if I attempt to watch it... I couldn't care less on spoilers since I'm familiar (enough) with the comic and I have been watching since the beginning. Thanks to this thread I watched the first 3 episodes and then the last one of the first half of this season and didn't miss anything. They have such a long flashback/previous episode etc it's like everything is restated for the 100th time... I also fast forward the drama (at least on 1 of the 3 episodes). I'm not watching this show for Breaking Bad level performances and unlike shows you have to pay attention on you don't miss anything other than a random character dying or them eating a can of beans... the sooner this show realizes it's a post apocalyptic show and not "Days of Our Lives" the better. I'll probably stay on till the show ends because of the time invested, but it feels good knowing I saved a couple hours and didn't miss anything. I haven't even watched this current episode... I'm debating on just saving a couple and fast forwarding again. It seems like 1 out of 4 episodes have some advancement..
Lol @ Grimes turning into Maximus ...to strike a deal with weirdo people who do not seem to speak complete sentences. Daryl the Tiger Romancer Rosita Buzzkill Carol the Housewife Random looking dudes that call themselves Saviors and harvesting from the Kingdom aggro all the others
Its like watching Days of our Lives or something. Just bring in a horde of walkers every episode and have Rick and Co. kick their asses in a gore fest....that would be way better then watching this crap.
Hahha, this is exactly what I said above, "Days of Our Lives: Walker Edition".... I think I'll wait a few episodes more and then do a fast forward to action.. I'm close to giving up on this snooze fest. My time would be better spent re-watching BrBa or something. The creators have basically realized slow drawn out drama allows them to drag this **** out, if viewership doesn't drop I'm sure it could go on another 5-10 seasons of soap opera excitement.
Something happens....lots of downtime dribble....something happens...lots of downtime dribble. Can't advance the timeline in this show because it takes multiple episodes of revisiting the same timeline to see what different sets of people are up to. It would be nice if it were limited but just too much going on in too many places. The beginning of the show flowed better because it started with one focal point (Rick's). Now, too many focal points. Too many mind. (if you can guess which film I picked the "too many mind" quote from, then I will be impressed) We will be done with the third or fourth episode before a full day has passed...if we are lucky. This may be the most binge-watchable show there is...if you can wait on it. But, week-to-week, it kind of sucks. I was a huge fan in the beginning because I hadn't watched it early on...so I binge-watched like 3 seasons on Netflix. That was great. I'm guessing that by the end of this season...the real war will have started. But, somehow, I think it doesn't finish this season. Worst case...the war doesn't start by end of season.
I wish they would take a GOT approach and show multiple storylines in each episode as opposed to focusing on one then coming back to that story line two weeks later.
I'm 100% certain we won't get any war action this season. There's a lot more on the checklist...recruiting the amazon people Tara met, which Rick hinted at when saying Tara's been out the farthest and will know where not to search. They still need to convince the Kingdom(and Morgan), and Greg at the Hilltop seems like he's willing to sell out the whole plan to solidify his own safety. They'll most likely end this season with a bs cliffhanger like last year.
dances with wolves....errrr...i mean avatar.....errr...i mean the last samurai. im not someone who constantly complains about the show, but last nights episode had a major "jump the shark" quality for me. im getting sick of the lazy writing and badly conceived plot-devices. the characters continually put themselves in stupid and unnecessary situations just to drive the plot along and take them in a new direction. Spoiler the idea that this new group of hipster-road warrior-extras finds it easier to wait for someone to get the supplies off the boat then follow them back to their compound and kidnap someone and steal all the supplies instead of just doing what rick and aaron did is pretty crazy. and also that they have avoided the saviors. and that they are willing to join up with rick simply b/c he killed a walker in their trash heap. and how did they capture gabriel?
So there's the junkyard people, the hilltop, the kingdom, possibly the all women group, and the alexandrians. 5 groups but the junkyard people will get 1/3 of all the stuff, plus guns that Rick will supply, plus the supplies they stole from Alexandria. And, btw, they have the least amount of people. Terrible deal. Rick just got fleeced Sacramento Kings style.
