Looking to switch careers , and was wondering if the certificate progam was worth it or should i go back to school and get a degree in teaching? I already have a bachelors in another field. Is the certificate looked down upon? Will I be less likely to be hired with it? Any advice would be great.
I can tell you that it makes no difference to CFISD. Benefit of the ATC is you can work and get paid while completing the certification. If you go through a university program you'll have to do student teaching, which is unpaid full-time work. However, you get better training and will become a better teacher, in my opinion, going through a university program. There are also more hoops to jump through going the ATC route from teachers I know who have done it. I went through SHSU's graduate program and it was a breeze, of course the biggest complaint is having to do a semesters work of teaching for free.
