I've played the last two video games on Xbox One...which were entertaining. But, I have zero interest in seeing this film. Maybe if it was on TV and I flipped it on? I wouldn't even rent it. I also think no one could "stack up" to Angeline Jolie when she played the role...even though Angie's accent in the role was forgettable. Maybe I'll see this some day? One doesn't see a film like this for the acting. I assume Alicia wanted to make some bigger money that comes with a role like this...so hard to blame her for taking this on.

I don't think that photo shop on the movie poster does her any favors but I'd hardly say she looks like a man.......

Didn't bother to look at reviews for the movie; I wanted to go in fresh. I ended up enjoying it, but it does fall short of being great. Sadly, we still don't have an incredible game adaptation.

Now the strengths are very much the performances. Alicia Vikander absolutely nailed the role of Laura Croft. Better than Angelina Jolie, but then I've enjoyed the younger, roughed-up, raw version we get in the current games. The other performances are definitely enjoyable to watch, despite their characters being one-note.

I like that the film is grounded and gritty and tries, successfully, to channel the survival action tone we get in the games.

The problem is that the story and characters just aren't developed enough. You try to adapt a game, in this case one in which the story unfolds over 30 hours of play, it's gonna be incredibly difficult to capture everything. So it feels like it's missing a whole middle act, and when you reach the climax, it doesn't feel earned.

The other problem is the direction. Shaky camera work, frenetic pace and no sense of spatial awareness made many of the action sequences hard to understand and rather forgettable.

Appreciate the effort though. They tried hard to give us a quality product, just not quite hard enough to give us something memorable. Still, it's worth a watch, and I definitely would like to see more of Vikander in the role.

That's a solid run down, I felt pretty much the same way.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing another entry with Vikander as well....

I had a some hopes for Assassin's Creed but wasn't all that......incl. the performance of Vikander's life partner.
