The only way to call up a player not on the 40 man roster via someone going on the DL is if that player went on the 60 day DL. The Astros will have to send someone down (Kemp) and will also have to make another 40 man roster move (DFA Chapman most likely).
I'm just glad they're calling him up and that the Astros version of being an "every day " player includes using the DH spot. Hopefully he sticks by making the adjustments on the fly that eluded White his first time around.
Early success plagued White... as it does with most of the other Astros rookies who have had a lot of early success (I've said the list before... but it includes guys who were never heard from again). Unless you're a phenom like Correa, or future star that was overqualified for the minors like Springer, players are going to most likely struggle in their initial MLB stint (and even then, Springer was awful in all areas of the game when he first came up).
Bringing Reed to the big league team is going to give more options to the Astros. This is his chance to prove he belongs in the Bigs!!! Gattis is playing two very important positions. Starting DH and primary Backup catcher (which is a huge responsibility too). So, the Astros needed someone to step in with legitimate credentials of a DH. You can't lean too heavily on Gattis, or else they are going to wear him out! So now comes Reed, who is a masher too, and can play two positions 1st base and DH. So when Gattis catches, the Astros still have a power threat that can slide into the DH role.
yessss, less Gattis, but Hinch has proven he is very loyal to him so i think Marwin will be the one taking less at bats vs righties. I hope we keep him at 1b all the time, batting second while we are in this hot streak.
I would think they'll play Reed at 1b, hard for me to believe that they'll bring Reed up to watch someone else play 1st. Marwin will continue to get his playing time, I am of the belief that Marwin does better when he's not an everyday player. Here's to hoping that this works out for the best.
Reed has no credentials at the ML level. We'll just have to see if he can do the job ongoing and not fizzle out like White.
So is he going to DH or play 1st. Marwin is still hitting very well and Hinch said Valbuena will be playing tonight. What gives?
He's gonna DH full time against RHP if I had to guess. Relegates Gattis to what his role should be, as the backup C and platoon bat against LHPs.
Why is Marisnick still on this team? Tony Kemp i think is more valuable...since he can play infield and outfield. 101 ABs, Marisnick has 18 hits, 7 walks, 6 RBIs in hittng .176....with one homerun. Kemp was hitting .238 with 3 Rbis, 10 hits, 7 walks in 42 ABs.
Screw a cheerleader. Get his ass out of here. He defense is not worth it, neither is his base running.
Ehh. I think Jake flashes a ton of potential. Id let him develop more in AAA though. Marwin has really provided a pause in rushing Bregman to the Major League Level.
anybody wanna throw out AJ Reed predictions/comparisons? I see a little Berkman in Reed. Prediction rest of the season: .269/.325 with 12 2B/11 HR/40 RBI
