Report: Aikman near Miami deal QB `99 percent sure' on comeback BY ETHAN J. SKOLNICK eskolnick@herald.com ABC News Radio reported Sunday that former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman is completing a deal with the Miami Dolphins, after sitting out the 2001 season. The Dolphins declined comment Sunday, and coach Dave Wannstedt told a team spokesman that he would answer questions about Aikman today. ABC News Radio reported Aikman -- who had 11 concussions in 12 seasons -- is 99 percent sure he wants to play again, particularly with the Dolphins if they hire Norv Turner as their new offensive coordinator. Turner, a longtime friend of Wannstedt's, was the Chargers' offensive coordinator this season. He would leave San Diego if he is not elevated to coach to replace the fired Mike Riley, or the Chargers don't hire a coach with whom he wants to work. Chan Gailey, who was the team's offensive coordinator the past two seasons, is taking over as the coach at Georgia Tech. The Dolphins' current quarterback, Jay Fiedler, can opt out of his contract, although Miami has the right of first refusal should he receive an offer. ``I would love to stay here,'' Fiedler said. ``I'll let things play out. We're at a point right now where it's up in the air. My first choice would be to be back here with the Dolphins.''
If Troy Aikman actually comes back, he will be shaking and talking like Muhammad Ali by the time he is 50 years old.
Aikman is an idiot. I am not a Cowboys fan nor am I an Aikman fan but this guy has accomplished anything and everything a player could want. He was the rings, MVP's, and will make the Hall of Fame. What does this guy have to prove? He is going to go get his ass beat and when he does I am not going to feel sorry for him at all. They are going to have a scene out of Sleepy Hallow sometime next year with Aikman on the losing end of that deal.
Well, I have always hated the Cowboys, and Aikman by association, but maybe he just misses playing football. While I agree that he will get knocked around a bit, as I am sure he is even LESS mobile than he was before he "retired", I think he will be okay as the QB for Miami.
Geez, what does his wife think about this? The guy is asking... no volunteering... to become a vegetable. I'll bet she's pleading and begging him to stay retired. Troy, I respect you a whole lot, but dude, seriously, hang it up... unless you really just like to be fed through a straw.
GO FOR IT TROY!!!!! Maaaaan, I lost cash-money yesterday, know why? CUZ, I BET ON THE DOLPHINS! Passing game was CRAP! I say Troy will do really good and you boys will have to hate another team by association. Just you wait and see, you'll see when you see. Ya see?!
