Nope, Peterson can thank Goodell for this suspension. Goodell continues to look more and more incompetent.
Not approving what Peterson did because it is appalling to hit a child, no excuses. But if the NFL made a policy saying domestic violence 1st offense is a 6 game suspension, why are they making it a 15 game suspension now?
It really seems like Goodell and the NFL don't want to deal with anymore backlash this season and just hope it all goes away in the offseason when they quietly reinstate Peterson(and Rice possibly)
If he didn't want to deal with any more backlash he would have reinstated Peterson and fined him for 6 games, which he has already sat out on the exempt list. So if his intent was to not deal with backlash, he is failing miserably. It just shows that this guy is really incompetent.
Because big money companies like Anheuser Busch didn't say anything when Ray Rice smacked his chick but they started talking when they seen the pictures of AP's tortured child.
This is pretty much what I predicted that AP wouldn't play the rest of this season. It's possibly because this is MN and not Texas but many here are still very negative on Petersen. While Goodell could've avoided backlash from the NFLPA and those who want Petersen back opinion even among Vikings' fans is still pretty divided on Petersen and the Goodell's image has been for more damaged when it seemed like he was soft on player's abusing others than he would be if he appeared to not be honoring the NFLPA or the NFL stated policy.
Just watched ESPN and according to Ed Werder, not only did Goodell and the NFL have an agreement to take AP off the exempt list after his case was resolved, but they also promised him that any time he served on the exempt list would count towards his suspension. Regardless of how you feel about AP and his actions, Goodell is a complete joke. Not only is this guy walking around making up rules as he goes, but he is a complete scumbag. With all the details about how he handled the Ray Rice situation, how is it even possible that he is still commissioner?
So they basically promised him he would be OK, he quickly resolves the legal process, then is shafted. NFLPA is a joke.
Why is it that everyone cares all of a sudden? These domestic abuse reports, drunken driving, etc. were not paid much attention to until that Ray Rice thing hit. Did people not realize what domestic abuse was until they saw a video?
It's one thing for a bunch of women to be upset about Ray Rice, but when a big time company like Busch who the NFL gets a lot of money from starts complaining about AP _ the NFL has to listen and act accordingly. But I agree with what a radio host said this morning that a commissioner shouldn't be in charge of handing out disciplinary actions... They should have a committee that handles that.
When it makes the company looks bad everyone cares. When it threatens business then everyone cares. When it threatens their earnings everyone seems to start caring. God dell is such a joke.
Yeap... The video provided a shock factor because many have never seen a man hit a women. So people are jumping on their high horses in outrage. Too bad Terrell Suggs old lady didn't have a video camera...
A caller into KFAN Minnesota sports talk radio just said the problem is with the Southern part of this country that finds what AP did acceptable.
I have heard this gross generalization a few times during this case. Growing up in the south and raising my kids through a lot of their formative years in the south, I never saw this type of discipline as being considered acceptable on a wide basis.
