Lost by 44 points to the Kings.

Too early to judge? Maybe. But it would take a superstar level effort to turn the Cavs into a good team, both in terms of talent and in terms of culture. I just don't think Deng is enough to do it on either end.

Bit early to call it a bust. Just because a trade doesn't result in an immediate turn around, doesn't mean it was a bust.

They got rid of a headcase while saving money. Deng is a good player, a vet the Cavs need but he isn't good enough to turn a basket case like the Cavs around.

Besides the Cavs get nothing out of winning games.

    This.

It'll take some time for them to grow into the 8 seed first round exit we know they're capable of.

I honestly think it's too late for the Cavs.

They might squeeze in 8th seed if they are lucky, but they will be competing against Brooklyn and New York who are on the rise. Even if the Cavs make the playoffs, they will be first round elimination. Deng is likely gone after this season.

    Fixed.

The East is a joke. Cleveland's only 2 games back of the playoff spot.

James Harden dropped like 45 his first game with us, with how many practices? 0? Luol Deng is a 10 year vet, he should be able to adapt. Still needs time, but 44 pt blow out is ridiculous

Agree that he should adapt fast, but what does Luol Deng have to do with their best player getting absolutely annhilated by IT2?

The thing is, Deng is not a bad player at all, Cleveland is just a really screwed up situation that would take more to fix than just adding Deng.

They should just tank, and hope for good draft position.

Deng is a very good role player, but I think the acquisition put a little too much pressure on Deng to be the savior of that franchise.... at least this year.

I think Deng takes a good look at the market this Summer to join a team where he can be a better fit on a contender, and might already have his eye on free agency now which could hamper his performance the last few months of the season.

If the Cavs want to keep him they are going to have to significantly overpay him for what he's worth which would be a stupid move on their part to tie up their capspace on him when they obviously need to rebuild more.

In a draft loaded with franchise altering prospects, this was not the year to try that hard, and waste assets to trade for a player like Deng. However, I do think there is still time for Cleveland to flip Deng at the deadline though if they needed to, and get an asset or two back in return. Dont sleep on another Deng trade.

(Deng for Omer/filler still works at the deadline FYI)

They've had to overall number 1 picks fall into their laps as well as a two number 4 overalls in the past 3 years. Tanking fails if the FO is too incompetent to pick prospects.

At this point, I don't think it's fair to call them "incompetent". They've had early picks in some pretty weak draft classes.

The deadline to trade a player and then reflip him at the deadline was Dec 17th. They missed that deadline so they can't trade Deng till the offseason.

    2011- 1: Irving- Great pick
4: Thompson- a reach pick that didn't pan out

2012- 4: Waiters- overall terrible pick.

2013- 1: Bennet- Looking like the worst overall #1 in years

They should be much further along than they are with all of the picks they've had even in bad draft classes. Imagine if the Rockets were in the same situation and Morey made those picks. All of the board would be calling for him to be fired.

Why in the hell would Deng resign in Cleveland? Even if they offered a max deal he'd likely still bolt.
