You guys were getting worked over on a cheke64 comment. He would have said River Oaks was ghetto, and you guys would be, Really? I should stay away from that area.

My comments were mostly tongue in cheek (as per usual), and the rest was exasperation (especially considering the coin we just dropped). We literally closed on our house on Friday, so by this weekend, we'll be somewhat neighbors. Don't worry too much though, we live east of Willcrest, so if you have any kiddos at Wilchester, they won't be negatively exposed to my eight year old Rummel Creek Roadrunner. Although our presence could negatively affect local property values.

Also, having spent a few weekends driving the general area looking at houses, I can say that--day or night--the place is crawling with a police presence. Usually constables, but they don't just stick to the main roads. They patrol EVERYWHERE. If you want suicide by police, that's a great area to go crazy. Too bad he had to take others with him.

Thought the same. Doesn't take long to get an ID these days but cops are known to tamper with things.

Saw that Duke lacrosse story the other day and was sickened.

Suspected gunman was a veteran with 4 tours in Afganistan. I wonder if the reason that the police had been so slow with release of information was because they didn't want to release it on memorial day.

I'm betting west memorial is typically an easier beat though. You just drive around in circles and then punch out on most days.

    Apparent twitter account: https://twitter.com/GarzaDionisio/with_replies

Father: "Anything hasn't been confirmed. I suspect very much, but I haven't gotten official word. I really believe this is a PTSD thing."

He had become increasingly paranoid. He came to Houston last week because he found people with a similar view point: the U.S. is collapsing.

Father: "On the internet, he met some people that believed like him. It's better to go to Texas. He was trying to get us all over there and you know go live in a compound."

Father: "You know he was rambling off about the economy collapsing, you know. And that something was going to happen by Monday. Of course you look back now and there were signs. There were signs."

He recently dropped out of school according to his dad. His father is a missionary.

Byron Wilson(previously thought to be the 2nd suspect): Shot in the legs & shoulders. In & out of surgery much of the day but will survive.

Felicia & Paris(?): They say the gunman told them he let them live because they were Christians but he wanted to harm Jews and hated Wal-Mart. Felica & Paris don't know why he believed they were Christians. They are but nothing about them at that moment showed that. They are in awe of everything that happened yesterday.

Sucks that we stink at taking care of our veterans.

When the good guys with guns go bad.

So sad, a war vet from California goes to the Memorial area of Houston and shoots up the neighborhood during Memorial weekend.

If police released the info as PTSD related, this would get so much more publicity for the disorder.

Just think, the guy was trying to send a message on a day we should be honoring the fallen. He'd probably seen so much during his 4 tours

His bag on the news had CCI standard velocity. Was he shooting 22 during his rampage? Or just left over ammo from appleseed?

Anyone else think it's super weird that the police just happened to leave a bag right in the street filled with the birth certificate and other identifying papers of the suspect? A bag that reporters just happened to find and is now broadcasting the identity all over the news?

Imagine if this guy was Muslim, this thread would be 20+ pages long by and all over the news. Instead this story isnt even bigger than the one about a gorilla...

So tragic. Makes me wonder if he ever sought or got help for PTSD.

I know PTSD has been spot lighted in the media for many years, but maybe it should be brought up more in commercials so that veterans as well as family and friends can know what to do

If that area of town is considered ghetto, then I'm currently living an area that would be equivalent to a war torn third world country.
