So Recently my Condenser went out and my AC guy gave me a pretty good deal.

4 TON R22 unit installed for 1500.00 with 5 year warranty on the unit as well as 1 year warranty on the labor.

If any of you all need a good AC guy let me know.

My question is my old unit was a 4Ton Rheem. Always worked really well but it seemed like it wouldnt cool that great during peak hot summer hours. So this AM I left my thermostat at 80 to test out the new AC Condenser that was put in last night and my god.. I walked in today around 5:20 at jesus it is so nice and cool in here. it feels like what my old ac would feel like at 75 or lower..

so was my old ac just on its last legs and not working right?

    I have two units.. 1 4 ton and a 2 ton..

    any ac guys here?

    thanks

Wait, so you're asking if your AC just wasn't working right, after confirming it wasn't cooling enough (working right)?

Sounds like the compressor was also having issues. How old was the replaced unit?

If the unit isn't pressurizing the freon to it's maximum point of operation than you're going to get cool air vs cold air, or it could have been over pressurizing which would result in the same problem. Ever had the freon levels checked yearly?

Does the new unit run less too?

That would point again to the compressor not being able to cool down quickly and have a proper cycle.

    #1 - $1500???????????????? That is a deal
#2 - 2 units, including a 4 ton and 2 ton, your house must be large.
#3 - If you set your thermostat to 80, your house should be 80 and feel hot to most human beings.
#4 - If your thermostat used to be set on 75 and showing the house was at 75, but it was hotter, that would seem to be a thermostat problem.

yeah I thought it was a hell of a price! installed with 5 year warranty.. My local ac guy wanted 3800.00 I was like yeah.. no thanks..

Trust me I like it cold. I sleep with my AC on the other side of my home at 68. That's what I was shocked when I walked it and 80 felt really good.. felt like 75... yeahs its pretty big. 3400 Sqft.. thats why I have two units.. thought about adding a 3rd one for the Hot August months but since I got this new one I think I will be alright

Those brands are so overrated for their price point. You're more than welcome to be a sucker though.

You sure it wasn't a Used unit? That seems to good to be true?

I'm thinking of changing mines since it's so old and has had some problems over the years. What part of town does he service? Got the name of his company?

Was this replacing just the unit outside, or for the entire system (outside unit and inside)?
