i think some are just astounded that you dislike obama this much. when someone out there could have probably done better. but compared to the joke that bush was its confusing. it astounds me at least.
Exactly. Attacking the right of free speech and attacking how one uses that right are two different things. In this situation there is plenty of ignorance and hate to go around.
Totally agreed on this point. I find it annoying when new outlets try to generate a story with these sky-is-falling proclamations regarding candidates. The average person voting for Romney probably doesn't care or know about this apparently "fatal" gaffe. If they do, then they'll probably willfully accept the narrative accompanying the false statements like our neocon trolls here do. As for those who are not insane and are aware of this erroneous statement... well, they'll forget about it soon enough. That's mostly true for all of us--with the constant feed of news and hyperbolic headlines, stories and events lose their impact and quickly fade in memory... and are quickly replaced with more manufactured tidbits. Yaaay news!
Historical perspective: Barry Goldwater was severely hampered by the perception that he was too likely to push 'the red button'. Huntsman: Romney's Reaction to Arab Protests a 'Problem' http://www.nationaljournal.com/2012...reaction-to-arab-protests-a-problem--20120914 Former U.S. Ambassador to China and presidential candidate Jon Huntsman said on Friday that Mitt Romney’s response to the violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa posed a “problem” for the man he endorsed several months ago. As protests raged outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and an attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya earlier this week left four Americans dead, Romney’s decision to criticize the Obama administration was ill-advised and was a lost opportunity, Huntsman said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Oh look! Romney finally condemns islamophobic film Well done Romney, well done Mitt Romney Condemns Anti-Muslim Film, Echoing White House Position Romney told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that while he had not seen the film himself, he knew enough to declare it a “very bad thing.” “You know, I think it’s dispiriting sometimes to see some of the awful things people say,” Romney said. “And the idea of using something that some people consider sacred and then parading that out a negative way is simply inappropriate and wrong. And I wish people wouldn’t do it.” Romney said that the film is clearly legal under the Constitution. “Of course, we have a First Amendment, and under the First Amendment, people are allowed to do what they feel they want to do,” he said. “They have the right to do that, but it’s not right to do things that are of the nature of what was done by, apparently this film.”
Dang! The hits just keep coming for Willard. Huntsman: Romney's Reaction to Arab Protests a 'Problem' Former U.S. Ambassador to China and presidential candidate Jon Huntsman said on Friday that Mitt Romney’s response to the violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa posed a “problem” for the man he endorsed several months ago. Huntsman said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “This was an opportunity to instruct, to elucidate, to educate, to talk about how you put the pieces back together again in North Africa and the Middle East,” he said. “Not to condemn, not to criticize, not to turn it into a political event, but to explain to the American people what we're going to do during a time of need, during a time of crisis, during a time of uncertainty.”
New York Times: “An extraordinary lack of presidential character” Washington Post: “A discredit to his campaign” Los Angeles Times: “An outrageous exercise in opportunism.” Boston Globe: “His statement was offensive on many other levels…Romney’s actions raise more doubts about himself than Obama.” Philadelphia Inquirer: “Mitt Romney didn't wait for expert assessments to use the four diplomats' deaths to launch his own verbal assault.” Miami Herald: “Profoundly inappropriate” Tampa Bay Times: “The Republican nominee continued to exploit the situation” Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel: “Irresponsible. And totally unwarranted.” Sarasota Herald-Tribune: “Prematurely lobbed off-base criticism” Cleveland Plain Dealer: “Mitt Romney's trigger finger was so quick that he didn't even get it right” Akron Beacon Journal: “Unfortunately, Mitt Romney chose to ignore the distinction.” Boulder Daily Camera: “For someone whose campaign has been studded with tone-deafness abroad, this was stunning, undiplomatic and undemocratic rhetoric.” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Yes, it was sad and pathetic to see such callous and uninformed statements from politicians who couldn't wait until they had the facts to use an international incident for political gain.” http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/
more good news Romney’s Libya Response May Have Done Real Damage Mitt Romney’s tough — and inaccurate — response to a fatal attack on the American Consulate in Libya last week is not sitting well with voters, according to several new polls.
