Asian Americans are the most educated group and experience consistent racism from other groups but it is not acknowledged because of their success. I think the GOP's language and culture is turning off Asian Americans from a sensibility standpoint.
` Something similar applies to Jewish Americans. What many of us see is that the GOP largely consist of: 1) people who dislike us based on ethnicity, religion, etc., and 2) people who tolerate those in group 1) until it becomes electorally inconvenient to do so. Remember, Mr. "Never Trump" himself, Mitt Romney, sought and received the endorsement of Donald Trump in 2012 when Trump had already billed himself as Birther in Chief. Yeah, Trumps giving up dog-whistling and instead spells out his bias in more obvious language in 2016 has caused some of them to condemn/disavow him. However, it's pretty clear that the GOP leaders' problem is about the consequences of such language in terms of losing votes rather than the nature of Trump's positions.
So why are they so successful? Maybe the use that work hard and don't commit crime mentality like most do?
Asian Americans get screwed over by democratic ideologies almost more than anyone Affirmative action hurts them more than anybody
Because the Pacific Ocean. Specifically, the Pacific Ocean is a physical barrier between the U.S. and Asia so that it requires some resources for people in Asia to get to the U.S.-- whether legally or illegally. As a result, a high proportion of the immigrants coming from Asia to the U.S. are from middle- to upper-class and at least somewhat educated families. Relatively few Asian immigrants in the U.S. are impoverished villagers who have only a few years of school. The Asian immigrants in the U.S. coming from more impoverished and less educated backgrounds often do not have enjoy the "success" in terms of education and finances that Asian Americans are stereo-typed to have. A lot of Asian Americans are actually quite bothered by affirmative action's effect on Asian American college applicants. We know quite well what is going on-- Remember, we are good at math and our people are as focused on the college admission game as anyone else in the U.S. However, for a large majority of us (75% judging by poll number and the most recent elections), the affirmative action isn't enough to make us stand with racists and their allies.
There are groups of Asians that are extremely poor. Asians are not a homogeneous group of people. Visit any "Asian ghettos" and you will find the same problems that you would see in any other ghetto. Also a significant percentage of Asians in America came here by choice with the mentality to work hard.
My father was a delegate at the Houston convention for HW's reelection bid. Time has changed the Republican Party a lot. Plus, people aren't stupid when using coded language and dog whistles. The act of inclusion for those words is meant to exclude the target groups. That's partly why Donald was successful because the p***y footing through dog whistles around the racist fingerpointing that Conservative and MSM media peddled got old and ultimately felt inauthentic. More this than not, except the GOP doesn't have much choice either way. Party establishment made this ****ty bed well before Shrub. It was either Rafael or Donald who was going to force them to lay in it.
Yeah, I'm amazed at people that ask this question. The Southern Strategy is no conspiracy theory, we've had republicans come out and say it. Just 10 minutes of research on Atwater would reveal it to you...I don't know if they are trolling they just literally think that it doesn't matter. It doesn't affect them so they can't see how a black person might distrust the party that fought against civil rights for a while. When the strategy was born it was said quite bluntly that it would mean the GOP would never get more than 20% of the black vote for a long time...well that time is still going and candidates like Trump, conservative talking heads, and the occasional politician keep extending that time.
Has Wade addressed Trump's remarks? I don't think he has. It seems to me like he put himself at Wade's mercy by latching onto his name. I think Wade has better than average credibility among NBA players and if he castigated Trump, it'd be a blow to this black angle Trump is playing. Maybe not 90%, but yeah I bet he could have gotten a majority of the black vote if he ran with a D next to his name -- and embraced Democrat ideals and policies, conformed to Democratic political correctness, and made appeals to represent the particular concerns of minority communities like a Democrat would. But, then he wouldn't really be Trump at that point, would he?
Wade isn't going to steal any more attention from his cousin unless that giant cheeto is going to make any more noise from it to regain points. The idea that an old white male with a populist message would win 90% of the black vote just for being a Democrat is a nice claim. Now if only we had some reference in the last six months to remotely prove that assertion...
