No, actually the OP doesn't really make a good point, because he's making moves from hindsight. Ex. You're in a game show, and the host asks you to choose between getting $100 or getting a box which may have 1 Million dollars or may have just 1 dollar in it. Obviously you take the box, but then you find out it just has 1 dollar. Do you then say that "Oh man, taking that box was the wrong choice I should've taken the $100!" Well unless you're a total moron no matter how many times fate plays itself out you will have to take the box, it's a chance you have to take every single time. Well T-rob is the Rocket's box, and the Rox would be dumb to keep $100 Ppat if it meant taking a peek at a top 4 pick and possible franchise player. Now circumstances have rendered this decision the "wrong one", but honestly you expect Morey to keep Ppat on the by predicting that Beverly would injure WB and keep him out of the series? Personally I don't like rewarding faulty decision making, which is why I often judge Gm moves by the info that was available at the time, instead of basing it on results like most people do. Stuff like trading Battier for Thabeet or amnestying Scola are still good moves IMHO, even if they leave a very sour taste in my mouth afterwards.
Amnestying Scola was necessary to give PPatt playing time. hmmmm. sometimes hmmmm means "irony" ,,, or is this sarcasm. hard to tell sometimes the difference between irony and sarcasm.
Playing him got us the 5th pick in the draft. From 14th to 5th. From a PF who cant rebound and likes to take threes to a PF with potential, who can rebound, play D, and jump through the roof. From a player who was probably gonna get more than he is worth in free agency even though he could not crack the starting line up on the Kings to a PF who still has 3 years left in his deal and is only 22. I dont care what you guys say. You dont write off a player with Robinson's stats and measurements after only 1 year in the NBA.
P-pat has a limited upside so it was a Good Trade, Good Gamble. T-rob still has the higher ceiling but with if Dwights coming we'll unfortunately have to let him go for maybe a pick or so which is still a win win. P-pat isn't Aldridge, West, or Love so losing with or without a mediocre starting pf is irrelevant towards beating the thunder. Harden needed another STAR on his side.
That Patterson trade was kinda made no sense considering Morey is pretty much getting rid of every player he traded for.
I miss Toney Douglas. This revisit to PPat has done nothing but make me miss the guy. I like Beverly on defense, but Douglas was a better offensive plugin when Jeremy Lin had to sit.
Honestly I don't see the difference between Beverley and Douglas apart from the fact that Douglas had a little more experience. I'm happy with Beverley at his price for the next 2 years.
This is ignoring the fact that the Rockets as a team played BETTER after trading them because McHale was using Garcia/Parsons/Delfino more.
