Does ANYONE know what's happening with Oscar Torres this offseason? Is he going to be re-signed, or will he move onto another team/league?? I realise that the Rockets have their plates full with Ming at the moment, but come on! Where's Oscar???
Torres is a restricted FA and the Rockets can match any offer for him up to the MCE. I don't think any teams value him highly enough to offer him over ~$4.5m so he'll be back. I don't know if their season is over, but OT was/is playing for the Marinos de Oriente in the LPB and they are doing well > 21-18 and five games out of 1st place. Pig Miller was playing in the Chinese pro league (CBA) and is now a teammate of Oscar on the Marinos. http://www.latinbasket.com/ven/d1.asp UPDATE - I do not see Pig listed on the current Marinos roster and although Oscar Torres is on the current roster, he is not in the Top 10 in any LPB statistical category (?). I will pursue this further when time permits.
From the link: NT=National Team Venezuelan NT Camp roster - May 31, 2002 - by Marek Wojtera Head Coach Jim Calvin called 21 players to teh Pre-Selection Camp of the National Team. The players are: Oscar Jose Torres (195-F-76, agent: Capicchioni Luciano), Víctor David Díaz, Carl Herrera, Richard Lugo, Diego Guevara, Héctor Romero, Vladimir Heredia, Carlos Morris, Pablo Machado, Rafael Guevara, Ludwing Irazabal, Ernesto Mijares, Alex Quiroz, Tomás Aguilera, Henry Páez, Luis Julio, Hernán Salcedo, Arnaldo Amundaray, Gregory Vallenilla and Víctor Luces.
Yeah, whatever happened to Carl Herrera? Was the last team he was with in the NBA the Spurs? He never really recovered from those shoulder problems did he? That seemed to be his downfall. He just did not have enough strength (and technique) to play PF in the NBA consistantly. Chris
