I know there is an old thread on this already but I thought this deserved a new one. Some of the letters are pretty hilarious and some are just head smackers. After all this, all A&M has done is tell Fran that this case will be part of his final review and that he is not allowed to have a personal assistant. Oh ya...they also fired Fran's assistant (which I think is crap). What's inapproriate about that? What were the circumstances? Talking about player's grades and eligibility? That's a HUGE no-no. Aggies are right...they aren't obsesses with UT at all. Also...Fran reveals his defensive gameplan and first 6 offensive plays for the Montana State game on page 46. To tell people the plays you're going to run is mind boggling to me. http://athcluster.tamu.edu/emails/email_5.pdf
This is Coach Fran's death knell. No matter what A&M does the rest of the year, this sets the stage to fire him after the season is over.
Gotta agree. He's going to have to go undefeated the rest of the way and to a BCS game if he wants a chance to retain his job. Though, the schedule pretty much says it ain't gonna happen... @ Tech @ Nebraska home for undefeated Kansas @ OU @ Mizzu home for UT It's actually possible that they finish 5-7. I think they only win 2, maybe 3 more games. Hello Houston Bowl. Goodbye Fran.
Can't wait until he is gone!! I only hope they can use his not reporting outside income as required, is grounds for termination of the $8 million buyout.
For a guy making millions already, it's absolutely r****ded that he jeopardized his already tenuous position over a measly $37k in additional revenue. This kind of thing sheds some light on his intelligence and decision-making abilities. There's about a .01% chance that Fran is back next year, IMO. He's single-handedly turned the Aggies into a joke off the field (and arguably one on the field).
Fran will be fired after the season. To fire him now would be stupid, because it would kill any and all recruiting. You fire him AFTER national signing day, and give the new coach a chance to talk the recruits out of leaving.
This is the funniest piece of investigative journalism since the the Lewinsky Penthouse letters. jajajajaja!!!!!
Exactly...most of the letters are filled with useless info. and I can't believe people were actually paying $1200 to read it. But that letter regarding the player's grades and eligibility is just ridiculous.
There isn't a good solution, but I would think that some recruiting is better than no recruiting...but I guess you don't agree.
Most schools fire their coach the day after their last game so as to (1) maximize their opportunity to search for a new coach and (2) have a new coach in place well before signing day to do recruiting and give their players a reason to stay committed.
