This is kind of the point.
I think the whole pessimism about the team
    Is overblown.
50 Wins probably keeps us in the top 5 teams in the West

    Russ wasn't too efficient?

So the shell of his former self was exactly like his former self?

Except he is shooting 23% instead of 32-34% from 3.

You're right. The old Russ was the model of efficiency.

There are two ways to look at it.

    Glass half full view:
None of the teams are really dominating. We are coming out of our early slump. We can overtake them all.

    Glass half empty view:
Many of the teams have the potential to break out. Houston is just one among the pack. Maybe Golden State is in an early slump just like the Rockets, but they are still far ahead of us.

If we have a 10 game win streak...yes

If not, 51-53 wins seems doable. The return of CP3 is key.

It’s certainly possible for us more so than those other teams excluding the warriors IMO, but I really don’t think 55 is key. It’s going to look like 50-52 wins will be #2 seed due to such a balance in the West. It’s absolutely nuts how competitive it is.
We only have 3 more losses than the #1 seed with our horrible start/injuries/ and tough schedule. Our schedule is looking much lighter heading in January too.

Add in the Trade Deadline could give us more help
    Then the buy out market
    AND
All Star break will give us time to heal and maybe some extra practices

Have to wait and see how they do the next few weeks without Chris Paul. If they continue winning at a high rate without him, then maybe yes. If not, then no.

To get to 55 wins, they'd have to go 37-12? the rest of the way. Doable, but only if winning consistently.

    l
    45-49 wins
You use the word "if" in every sentence.
If they continue winning at a high rate without him
    if winning consistently,
if both Paul and Harden are healthy'
    barring from injury

    37-12 is not doable.

Rockets have been ekeing out wins due to Harden’s brilliance. Any slip there and it’s right back to mediocrity. I’m not very confident in CP3 coming back as a superstar level player this year and Knight’s contract is too big a negative to get a needle moving player through trade.

Be content with a 5th seed and a possible WCF appearance. Reload next year with all our picks and two large expiring contracts; this season is done.

Yep, I did...on purpose. A LOT of things have to go right to get there. That was my point. Could it happen? Yes. 37-12 is not impossible, at all. Do I think it will happen? Again, gets back to how they play next few weeks without Paul.

1st seed is headed towards 54 wins
8th seed is headed towards 44 wins.

I think this season, everyone's win totals will be lower than previous years.

So no, we are not getting 55 wins unless we go on some insane winning streaks. I am thinking 50.

The cool thing is that with the addition of Austin Rivers I believe we are really just a Brandan Knight for a 3 and D wing trade away from being very very good again. Picking up an NBA quality player like him for nothing is a game changer.

Especially after we unleash our secret weapon; MCW.
