    Students grazed by bullet

HOUSTON -- Three children were grazed by a bullet at Betsy Ross Elementary School in northeast Houston Tuesday.

HISD police confirm a kindergarten student brought a loaded handgun to school and it accidentally went off when it fell from his pocket in the cafeteria.

A single bullet grazed all three victims, including the 6-year-old who brought the gun.

None of the children, two boys and a girl, appeared to be seriously hurt. They were all conscious and sitting up on the stretchers as they were loaded into ambulances.

HISD police and several ambulances responded to the scene at 2819 Bay around 11:20 a.m.

Several parents rushed to the school after learning of the shooting and some took their children home.

Police are now investigating how the boy got the gun.

The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

We'll have more on this developing story as details become available.

The parents waiting outside are a nervous wreck not knowing whats going on with their child. Would never expect this at an elementary school.

Kindergarten @ Betsy ross is just like compton.

Dumb lazy parents. How do you not secure secure the gun in some safe? I know kids are curious, but if you make it impossible to find the gun..they wont find it.
I can't tell you how many times I attempted to get access on my father's copy of Basic Instinct. I could never get to it. =(

And why are the guns always loaded? Is it that difficult to place the clips in an entirely different location? I'm not a gun owner...so I don't know.

Were they all huddled around it or something? That's insane that one bullet grazed 3 kids. I don't think my disdain for the parents can be expressed in words.

    Almost a triple kill...

This is why I hated walking everywhere in lines during elementary school. One unfortunately placed bullet could take out a whole class of kids.

I thought we were finally past all of this toddler-on-toddler violence.
