Yes and McConnell and Trump's own lawyers said that.

I fully hope he is and was hoping he both got convicted in the Senate AND criminally tried.

I fully expect Graham, Cruz et al will be out there claiming that Trump can't be criminally charged or sued for acts while President.

If the Tweet does not fit, you must acquit.

    Yes, via WaPo:

"In addition to Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Mitt Romney (Utah) and Ben Sasse (Neb.), who were expected to join Democrats on the vote, Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.), Bill Cassidy (La.) and Patrick J. Toomey (Pa.) also voted for conviction."

So a bi-partisan 57 votes for conviction, 10 short of the required threshold.
So Trump is "acquitted" ... and pooped on bigly by McConnell. LOL.

The Senate voted that the impeachment was constitutional, and the Republicans voted not to convict because they thought the impeachment was not constitutional. So why are they going to follow any rules from now on?

CNN called it a constitutional cop out.

And it wasn't the Democrats that sold it out, there was never be a conviction it was just how long did they want to drag it along. There's too much work to do to beat a dead horse.

Mitch McConnell seems to think that Trump can be criminally and civilly liable for what happened. (Now that he's not president?)

Yet again no sense of remorse or responsibility.

Why should he? His biggest consequence to this point has been a Twitter ban.

not getting impeached only furthers his belief that he can’t be touched...he is now free to try and take things up a level

They were always looking for a cop out. It's the same as the last impeachment where several Republicans felt that what Trump did was wrong but used excuses such as "it should be left to the voters" or "Trump learned his lesson.".

From wide spread reports nearly all of the Senators including Cruz know that what Trump did was wrong. They just default to putting party and personal ambition over country.

Clinton did win re-election and was plus 4 in 1998 after the assault weapons ban.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_midterm_election

In reality, Clinton would never have even been elected if not for Ross Perot so Republicans were out in force in 1994.

Al Gore didn't lose his election because of the assault weapons ban. Obama won re-election after Obamacare and Clinton didn't lose it because of Obamacare.

I think you underestimate the impact of gerrymandering. It's how Republicans win seats, they're overrepresented. It's just lazy absolutism to decide one piece of legislation or one act is the reason for a victory or a loss. 2010 was a gerrymandering year, the economy was decimated, and we had just bailed out Wall Street but Obamacare of course.

I don't say this lightly or flippantly but the man is a psychopath. He's incapable of empathy or sympathy even for his VP or his own supporters who died.

Nancy pelosi says Mitch McConnell voted to accquit because the rules weren't delivered while he was still president, but it was Mitch McConnell that closed the Senate for two weeks so the rules couldn't be delivered

The Assault Weapons ban was passed in September 1994 so was a major issue in the leadup to the 1994 election. I don't think it was the only reason for the Democrats poor performance as there also was the failed health care bill and the 1993 Budget.

1998 was more about the failure of Republican Congress to get anything meaningful passed, along with corruption out of Newt Gingrich and that impeachment of Clinton was very unpopular. Note impeachment of Trump in both cases has had majority support.

No one can know for sure but a lot of analysis have shown that Clinton still would've won without Perot. When Perot dropped out for a couple of months Clinton's poll numbers increased. It is most likely that Perot took votes both from Bush and Clinton.

I've never seen an analysis on Perot but I think he hurt Bush tremendously as the incumbent.

    Anyway, off topic.

he definitely is...people are just pawns to him or a means to an end...he’ll use people, and then toss them aside when they’re no longer useful

he would only show fake empathy for his stupid supporters that died if there was something in it for him

2 impeachment trials for this guy, and nothing came of it. Inciting an insurrection and attempted overthrowing of Democracy, and all he’s gotten so far is a Twitter ban, and that ban only happened when Twitter felt that they had exhausted every other avenue. They gave him every chance possible even tho his words on there were ban worthy offenses long before January 6th.

he will never take responsibility, especially since he has no reason to...as far as he’s concerned, the Dems and fake news media just lost to him again
