I love the pictures in these tweets. I can’t imagine how excited these guys and their families are. Everyone has a story.
Luciano is # 28 on my Most Valuable Prospect List as an OF/3rd base prospect. I was not ready to commit to a position when I added him.
Which prior signings for the Astros were negated by the age fraud scandal? Do we have the final word on that?
No signings worth caring about. This happens every couple of years, scumbag peloteros. If it was big bonus for people, you would have heard about it by now.
One of the players who had their contract voided was due a $5 million bonus. That is a really big bonus for international players. However, neither the team nor the name of the player was released
Who, What, Why, How? I hadn't heard anything like that. Wow. I thought all of this serious birth certificate bullsh!t was over and done with years ago, post 9/11 I guess not.
Seems like the problem has risen again. Bob Nightengale reported that one player was in line for a $6 million dollar bonus. Don't know if it is the same player or not. The only actual name that I have found is Jasson Dominquez of the Yankees. However, the article just seems like it should be taken with a grain of salt. https://www.essentiallysports.com/m...w-york-yankees-stars-identity-now-in-question
Yeah Astros were one of like 5-6 teams… Mets have one for sure, A’s, Twins, Royals and Astros (if I remembered them all). Some of the blame rests with the teams, including the Astros - some of these were big prospects and the teams involved should have properly vetted and investigated these kids and where they came from, etc. Honestly this doesn’t look good for Astros international scouting… only a few years ago our scouting department in the US amateur draft took a kid off every teams board and we didn’t even know it…
A SS the Mets were bragging about getting a multi million dollar commitment from - ended up being several years older than his stated age. Most teams figured it out before working out signing him, the Mets did not.
Lol, how many of these kids just got signed, and how old are they? https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2024-international-prospect-rankings-and-scouting-reports/
How often does this happen with older guys I wonder? I have a good friend who always said he thought Yuli was several years older than he said. I always just laughed it off, but I suppose it easily could be true
Post 9/11 it's a whole lot less often (need verified birth certificates and such to get a visa), but the faking of age is always going to be a problem.
I understand this if players are too young, but it seems strange MLB is protecting teams from failing to do their due diligence when it comes to older players.
Astros signed Venezuelan OF Leandro Morgado. Theres nothing about him online that I could find. https://www.milb.com/player/leandro-morgado-823014
Like Dream. He was at least 3 years older than his stated age which is why his performance fell off a cliff a littler earlier than expected.
