If I was running for a senate seat I'd be connecting the republican candidate to trump. To the degree the republican candidate would complain I was running against trump, not him or her. Because I would be.

I know a lot will disagree, but I think a tie is possible, assuming a big Democratic win for the presidency. With the VP, that would give us (I’m a Democrat) a majority, and should get us judicial appointments approved. The big win in the senate will come in 2022. Check how many GOP senate seats are up for grabs vs how few of the Democratic ones.

That’s when a lot of the reforms so many of us want will get approved, assuming the trend is still Democratic. Election reform, overhauling the healthcare system, doing something about student loans, immigration reform, starting with the Dreamers. There are huge numbers of people that are eligible for assistance with student loans right now from programs that exist that are getting stonewalled, and from what I understand, trump’s budget is trying to get rid of those programs.

I'm gonna say it. We need full control to rubber stamp the remaining lifetime appointments. Maybe the current Senate will raid the vacancies with breakneck Congressional efficiency (!) but that's number one to reduce the chronic bleeding

Dems need to coalesce behind an idea for Nov 2020: Green New Deal or Public Option for ACA.

Amen. That by itself would be huge. Moscow Mitch is trump’s biggest enabler. One can hope. She would be a vast improvement.

    That can't be everything.

We need to break the Senate wheel permanently

    Kill the 'buster
Reform the judiciary. Add seats, get rid of life tenure
    Make DC and PR states

This was the kind of thing Mayor Pete was talking about before he became Pivot Pete.

    Agree with the first two.

Not sure if making dc a state is constitutional, but I’m no lawyer. I just play one on the tubes.

I voted that the Dems will come up short, but with all the random variables in play globally right now, who knows?

If coronavirus is going to be as bad as, say, the 1957 influenza, no telling what happens at the polls.

[EDIT: No, I am not "cheering" for hundreds of thousands of deaths, or even one more than we've had already, thanks. It's just hard to predict elections with events this noisy. I hope COVID-19 is greatly exaggerated, but it looks every bit as bad as 1957 so far, in terms of mayhem and illness.]

I vote for a major anti corruption bill first personally. Something that knee caps partisan judges in making rulings coming up in 21 that they cannot just ignore clearly spelled out law.

IMO nothing really gets done on healthcare and the environment without a clean up of government.

He's very popular in his state. Could be a game changer if he wins it, and he has an excellent chance of doing so, in my opinion. I was hoping that Bullock would do this, but had been assuming he wouldn't.

If I could choose, I might prefer controlling the Senate over the White House. Or, if we really get to pick, stick Republicans with the House and take the Presidency and the Senate.

Would work in some states, kill you in others.

Have it your way .... I'd rather neither party ever control all three. Its just not healthy.

Agreed, that way we can confirm judges and cabinet positions at the least.

Her approval rating is currently under water. The question is whether the Democrats can take advantage.

Not sure there is any significant polling yet, the Iowa Senate primary is in June. In December she was losing to Greenfield by like 4 points. Greenfield is considered the "establishment" choice for the race.

It's considered a "lean Republican" race.

Here was Des Moines register from this week:
