Nah, that's crazy talk. TBD's looking good for today, Rondon can be an opener, James has been super consistent, Valdez/Armenteros/Urquidy have looked good their last few games. I don't see why you'd want to add a starter or 2 at all.
Wade Miley is flying under everybody's radar. I looked at his stats to see how close to a #3 playoff pitcher he was. Miley's stats are very solid. Better than quite a few of the names that are being tossed around in this thread. Even if the Astros don't trade for a playoff starter, they do need to find another starter to eat innings.
Miley has been impressive. I still think we need a 3rd starter though. I don't mind Miley as the 4th starter in the ALCS/World Series. But definitely, we need another bullpen piece for the 7th inning to get to Pressly and Osuna.
Just went back and read through the Realmuto thread where half this board was dying to get him and most were willing to trade Alvarez for him... Just want to remind all of the backseat GMs on this board of that before people start complaining if we happen to strike out at the deadline. Lunhow is one of the best GMs in sports and probably the best in baseball right now, whatever happens I think he’s earned our trust.
While I expect Astros to get a starter, I don't have an issue with James. I want to see more from Urquidy and Armenteros before throwing them under bus with Rondon and Valdez.
I ask this in all seriousness as I don’t follow the minors that closely. But has Whitley shown anything since returning from his PED suspension? Is it possible he isn’t all that without doping?
While I don't think it has ever been revealed what he did take, it was reported that it wasn't a PED.
I’m pretty sure it was adderall if I remember correctly. Urquidy sure was impressive last night... Greinke would look fantastic in this rotation. He pitched a pretty nice game against milwaukee last night. I think going after him would be a great idea. We know our 1-2-3 would be the best in baseball this year and assuming we lose cole in the off-season I would still feel really good going into next year with a 1-2-3 of verlander, Greinke, and a healthy McCullers. The next week and a half I’ll be tuned in to see what happens. Truly feels like we are a solid sp away from being the favorites with this lineup once Correa and Diaz return
Perhaps. There is talk that the Astros will not be making a deal for a starter. I think at this point you will have to weigh overpaying for a starter that isnt an ace vs not making any moves. Its not unlikely that this is exactly the direction they go.
I’ve been screaming from the rafters Greinke Greinke Greinke all year. How about Greinke for Reddick straight up? Who would say no?
If Arizona really is shopping Greinke, and willing to eat significant money and not demand elite prospects, I think he would overwhelmingly be Houston’s top target.
I hear Phillies are the most aggressive in their pursuit. In addition, Toronto sent scouts to both Phillies and Cardinals MiLB games.
