would the mets do a Whitley+Beer with a Straw? or is that too much. I'm willing to do nothing but free agent and traded for pitchers in the Astros' rotation for now and the next decade. I mean since 1999 we've only had Roy-O, Dallas and LMc that were developed in the system.
Jordan Lyles, Wade Miller, Scott Elarton, Wandy Rodriguez, Bud Norris as well as a few other less significant pieces.
If the Astros are willing to part with Whitley, Thor or MAYBE DeGrom is their's for the taking. In my personal observation, I don't believe Whitley will contribute till 2021, if that. Whitley/White/Perez or Stubbs (3rd tier guy could work, maybe) is a pretty stout offer Thor. Maybe pry the tires on adding more if Edwin Diaz can be gotten. Top pitching prospect in majors, ML ready position player in White and a lefty in Perez is pretty good IMO.
No he wouldn't. The Astros are big boys that want to win and if Bauer helps them win then that is all that matters. Roberto Osuna beat his wife, Justin Verlander spoke out against the Astros adding him....... and everything is fine. If you think everyone in the Astros locker room are good friends, you are mistaken.
Have to get either Stroman or Syndergaard (in that order). One, we need a starter. Two, we know we need to prevent a starter going to NYY, BOS, or MIN.
I will be surprised if Whitley does not contribute at the big league level next year. He was a man child, mowing through multiple levels with ease at a young age.
Tbh, I'm not sure he doesn't have a chance to help in some capacity this year. If his 'reset' goes well and he's back and dominating in the next few weeks, I don't see any reason he couldn't contribute.
Just saving everyone a bunch of time on something that should be obvious. Who do you want? If Tucker and Whitley aren’t involved, I’ll take the often injured Scandinavian monster ... Noah Syndergaard. Can’t argue with 2.5 years of team control.... the Tigers can keep Boyd.
My order of preference for the 5 presumably available controllable high end SP: 1. Syndergaard 2. Bauer 3. Ray 4. Stroman 5. Boyd The Mets, Indians, and Diamondbacks all are not definitive sellers, and if they decide to keep their controllable starters the market may change dramatically. Take Syndergaard/Bauer/Ray off the market, and suddenly Boyd and Stroman may see their asking prices rise (same for Bumgarner). Just the same, if other teams become surprise sellers, the market could add more interesting options (Archer, Minor, Lynn, M Gonzales, J Gray, S Gray, G Marquez).
3 cheap rentals I wouldn’t mind Houston acquiring and trying to resign this offseason: C Alex Avila SP Andrew Cashner RP Jake Diekman Houston really only has 7 established pitchers secured for next season (which includes James, a rookie, Devenski, who has been declining/inconsistent, and McCullers, who is coming off of major injury). I’m sure they’ll trade for a starter with control remaining, and it’s fine to leave one rotation and a couple bullpen spots open for spring competition. But that still leaves a couple bullpen slots open, and they won’t have much money to spend, so it would be nice if they could add an established RP or two for next year prior to the offseason.
Outside of club control and apparent spin rate stats, I don’t get the love for Stroman. Give me a living postseason legend in Bumgarner over any of the other available SPs. Dude is only 29. I don’t understand why he wouldn’t be the first choice.
