Yeah, that'd definitely be reason enough to walk away from a game.

In 2.5 weeks of DSL action, we've got a few early standouts.

    - Yohander Martinez has gotten off to a blazing start to his career as he's hitting .389/.532/.472 with 5 RBI and 8 stolen bases in 12 games.
    - Cristian Gonzalez, one of the $300K signings last year, has primarily been at 3B. He has 13 RBI in his first 12 games. Some power (3 2B, 2 3B) could be on the way.

    - Jherson Pereira - At 22, ancient by DSL standards. Also a repeater, so he's most likely a non-prospect. Allowed an unearned run on six hits, walked three, and struck out 18 in three appearances (two starts).

Pretty excited about Gonzalez, Palma, and Balogh from that group.

Hopefully Martin is a main piece that can get the Stros another Ace so they can win another ring. Something like Martin/Fisher/White/low level pitcher for Syndergaard.

2B Jose Marquez, who has been in the Royals org, is showing up on Tri-City’s roster (along with 4 new draftees). His transaction page doesn’t show him being traded, so not sure how (or really even if) Houston acquired him.

Marquez being on Tri-City's roster was probably an error on MiLB.com's part; looks like they removed him from the roster page

Beer 0-4 today, and specifically, 0-3 with 2 K against LHP. I know Sheffield is a top prospect, but is Beer's inability to hit LHP a red flag of concern? Someone mentioned (either here or on the Crawfish Boxes) last month that his L/R splits are ugly, and then I looked at them. Was hoping it would go away, but it hasn't. Not losing hope, just something I felt was worth pointing out.

If you're not old enough to still own an old, solid, functional digital camera it's your problem and you're too young to be driving to the game anyway.

Beer bears watching, but he's only had 19 ABs vs LHP (I believe that's including tonight) in AA so far. There's an adjustment period with every promotion, with AA being a huge adjustment (I've heard many times it's the hardest one competition-wise outside of the jump to MLB) in pro ball and AA is often the level where guys either sink or swim.

I haven't been able to find his splits in A-ball this year before he was promoted (or even before that)...have you? That would be intriguing data.

Per baseball reference, his 2019 BA vs LHP in Fayetteville was .287 (6-for-21). Half of those hits were homers, though. Baseball reference only shows his total 2019 stats, not by level, so I had to calculate it by hand, subtracting his 2-19 from Corpus. Still a small sample size. (For comparison, he had a .350 BA in FAY vs RHP, calculated by hand using the same method)
Going back to 2018 (again, across all levels), he batted .329 vs righties and .208 vs lefties.
For comparison (2019 AAA stats for both)
Alvarez: .341 vs right, .349 vs left
Tucker: .293 vs right, .270 vs left

Hopefully he'll make the adjustment and it'll even out, but worth noting. Neither Alvarez nor Tucker have this problem.

Jeez, man, I didn't expect you to go to all that trouble. Remind me to ask you to do this again for us in a month, ok?

    You rock, thanks!

I'll add that this is his 1st full season of pro ball and he's in AA. He basically played 2 seasons of college ball last year and he's already played more games this year than he ever did at Clemson.

No problem at all! Good points, and I'll be sure to check back later this year to see if things do indeed even out. I certainly wish the best for him!

As best I can tell, of the college LF/RF/1B types that were drafted around and after Beer through the 2nd round, he's the only one to reach AA so far and only the b*stard Twins' Larnach (10 picks earlier) is remotely close production-wise. Thought that was interesting.

A lot of Astros prospects plus Urquidy just misses list.

I’d like to see Freure, Garcia, and Ramirez fast tracked in bullpen roles. All 3 could be effective late inning relievers and are unlikely to be viable as starters in the big leagues. If they went ahead and shifted them to the pen all 3 guys could be in the majors by the end of next season.

It’ll be interesting to see how much longer Conine stays in Fayetteville; a good 40+ inning audition in AA to end the season would really put him on the national prospect map. As it is he probably belongs pretty firmly in the Org Top 30.
