Josh Rojas promoted to AAA. Big opportunity for him. If he can duplicate what he did in AA, his stock will get a big bump. Too late to become a Top 100 guy but he can get into that Fisher/Straw/Stubbs tier of value that profiles for a solid bench player floor with upside of an everyday player.
Enoli Paredes vs. Wilmington: 6 IP, H, BB, 7 K No-hitter through 5.1 IP, lost it on a bunt single because of course. Erased on a caught stealing, so justice was done.
Jeremy Peña is now on an 11-game hitting streak after he went 2-3 in game one and singling in game two of Quad Cities' doubleheader. Peña, who also stole a base in the first game, is now slashing .302/.392/.453 on the season with four home runs and 31 RBI. He now has 15 stolen bases as well.
3rd round pick last year out of Maine. His dad, Geronimo, played for the Cardinals in the early 90s. He was one of the top defensive players in the draft class but there were questions about his offensive upside. Appears to have answered some of those questions. Will definitely stick at shortstop. If he hits .255-.260, he's an everyday player. Should be moving up soon. Peña was 20 when he was drafted and doesn't turn 22 until after the minor league season is over so he probably has some untapped physical upside remaining.
Didn't know that was his dad, awesome, I remember him and never could figure out how/why he flamed out after 5ish years. He was good for a bit. I will now pay attention to the son.
I expected him to be merely passable with the bat so I definitely did not foresee this offensive production. He's been one of the breakout players in the system in the early going for sure. But like I said, if he's hitting around .260, he'll be an everyday player because of his defense.
I think fangraphs mentioned he added 20 lbs this offseason, which hasn't seemed to make him lose any speed judging by the steals and triples. He's certainly interesting.
The stolen bases are as surprising as the offensive production. His stock is really up. A good 2 months in High A to finish the season would really put him on the national prospect map.
Good. I'd give him a month off and then see where he is in july. That's enough time to ramp back up and be ready for September.
