Troy Sieber was released from BC to make room for Jake Meyers. Also, 2018 draft pick OF Logan Mattix was added to the QC roster along with Chandler Taylor. Looking at the current TC Roster, Celestino and Beer are the 2 guys who HOuston really needs to perform well. My sleepers are Machado, Valdez, Wielansky, and Rodriguez. In the GCL, Freudis Nova, Angel Macuare, and Elian Rodriguez are the 3 big prospects. I will also be watching Nathan Perry closely. With the TC roster updated to reflect the addition of some draftees, I still show 23 players in the system who have not been assigned to a roster: 3B Joe Perez OF Juan Ramirez OF Alex McKenna OF SCott Schreiber C Juan Paulino IF David Hensley C Cesar Salazar P Shaw Dubin P Mark Moclair P Hunter Martin P Alex House P Gerardo Bojorquez P Miguel Figueroa P Joseph Gonzalez P Jonathan Bermudez P RJ Freure P Austin Hansen P Dalton Roach P Ben Gross P Layne Henderson P Cody Deason P Brett Daniels P JP France Hard to see where they're going to find spots for all those guys. I would also expect them to sign Jayson Schroeder. But there are 12 other 2018 draftees who have not signed and at this point are probably not expected to sign, although Conine may end up signing after the CWS.
Wow, that’s 3 draft picks being assigned directly to full season ball. Hope they are able to hang, big opportunity for all 3 of those guys.
Speaking of Encarnacion, he had 7 RBI in in 25 games last season. He's driven in 5 tonight in the first game of the NYPL season.
Encarnacion signed for $1M with the Phillies back in 2013, so at one point he was very highly thought of. He has always had plus raw power but was released because he struck out a ton and doesn’t have much defensive value. Good for him to get a 2nd chance and get off to a good start.
I'm inclined to agree, although Josh Rojas really ran with it after he got sent to Quad Cities to start. . Now that Greeneville's no longer in the picture, there's just not really too many places to send draft picks, especially if the GCL is gonna be filled with kids from the Academy.
Reed also hit a homer (17) today. Wish he would have been called up instead of White, but both are great players, and, I doubt it would even matter, as White will sadly get called back down in a matter of days without getting much action.
Stupid Hinch and Luhnow. How dare they prevent the league's leading run scoring team from adding a couple of fringe major leaguers.
That and a 6-pack of Miller High Life will get you right there in 3rd place, but at least with a tolerable buzz.
