All about the time slot. There needs to be a Pacific/Mountain prime time game, and both the Lakers and Warriors are out of play since they're the ABC afternoon game. Utah is the best option left, and it makes more sense to put them against a team in their "tier" (i.e. Portland) than it does to make a perceived better team (i.e. Houston or any other contender) travel to Salt Lake City for the holiday.
Lakers are going to get smacked by GS, should have put us in their spot but I bet we get OKC at home this year on Christmas since we went there last year, would make sense.
