True, but both are the letters K, I and J, each in the same position. That's what I thought was worth the comparison.

I don't think there are good odds that a K would be in the Gulf while the J trails so far away. Pretty cool. Worthy of the "Very Bizarre" comment in the tweet.

Who knows, might be only the second time that K, I, J pattern happened with those letters, much less in such identical positions.

Strong hurricanes and busy hurricane seasons have happened before.

I was 10 when Allen hit us, even though it had dropped from a 5 to a 3. We hunkered down at my grandparents house in Brownsville...Right where it hit.

Yeah, I was terrified as a 10 year old. As an adult, respect the hurricane and be prepared....without hitting the panic button.

Being prepared and panicking are not mutually exclusive of one another. Take a look at your top 10 list of strongest hurricanes again. Six of your Top 10 are within the last 36 years. 3 of those in the last twelve years. Also 5 of the years with the most hurricanes are within that same time frame. More hurricanes, stronger hurricanes. Like you said be prepared ...for climate change.

You do realize that there are likely many more major hurricanes that either weren't recorded before the satellite era, or they were stronger than they were labeled. The first hurricane discovered by Satellite was in 1961.....

It isn't like we have hundreds of years of weather data to look at. Strong storms have been around for as long as earth has existed. A lot of storms before the 40s/50s weren't even recorded because there was no way of telling they were even out there. The only way to tell was when/if it hit someone, or a ship was in the area.

Yeah but his rankings go back to 1851 somehow so I'm just reading off his chart. I'm also pretty sure lots of hurricanes have hit the US so maybe he can go research that and we can talk some more.

At the same time, we have greater concentrations of people in areas where hurricanes still land... which means you need more time to prepare (or leave) because of the logistics around massive numbers of people.

It's not like the 40s/50s where maybe the whole town could jump on horses and move out.

...and 4 of the top 10 were between 1932 and 1969....within 37 years.

...and years for most major hurricanes? A span from 1950-1964 has 4 major hurricane seasons, 3 within 9 years. Also 3 major hurricane seasons within 9 years from 96-05.

Come on Tenchi. These are naturally occurring events. They've happened before, they are going to happen again, and there are going to be busy seasons, and slow seasons, strong storms and weak storms.

Regardless, all should respect these beasts. I'm just saying it's nothing new.

Imagine being on a ship in the 1400-1700's and some bad ass hurricane comes while you are out in the middle of the sea. If it was too strong you are dead. If it is weak enough to survive and the ship to barely remain entact. You then never want to go out to sea again haha

That's nothing. In the 1400s and before, the real problem was falling off the edge of the Earth.

    Have you heard from her?

I had a buddy there who finally was able to contact family via satellite phone last night.

This is still a major concern for the newest member of the Boston Celtics. I've heard from sauces that he had concerns about the Celtics flight patterns when they were considering trading for him. Boston to Miami was a little too close to the edge for him.

You never considered, while hiding your head down there in the sand, all the industrial manufacturing and ozone pollution that happened between 1932 and 1969?

Ya know, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam, Cold War..

Think man made climate change doesn't count if you don't call it by its name brehs...
