Forrest Whitley's outing yesterday was the first time in which he recorded double-digit strikeouts as a pro.
We have our very own Roy Halladay coming up. 4 plus pitches. He's probably untouchable along with Tucker.
At this point Whitley is rapidly moving ahead of Tucker in my prospect list, and that has nothing to do with me being any less impressed by Tucker. Whitley is showing all the signs of a true ace.
Whitley/Perez for the future makes it somewhat more palatable if they decide to jettison Martes or give up on Musgrove now.
Just watching Whitley's form. He has an extremely deceptive throwing motion. From the batters eye, you see the ball fall below his right leg at the start of his motion. That's filthy....
Really hope we can get a reading on his mph. It's common for guys with dead arm(rotator cuff injury) to have a drop off in velocity.
It wasn't necessarily his delivery. I'm talking about his arm motion prior to his front foot hitting the ground to start his release. His motion is going to wreck hitters timing.
DSL All-Star game is today. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2017_07_16_dsarok_dsnrok_1&t=g_box&sid=milb Astros have two starters: Ronaldo Urdaneta DSL Astros Blue -2B Ramiro Rodriguez DSL Astros Orange - DH
There was a demo on MLB Central a couple weeks ago illustrating that a factor mitigating Tommy John injuries may be the forearm/wrist in a minimally stressful configuration when the front foot hits the ground. I wonder if Whitley's pitching coach noticed that & reminded him mid-game.
Agree although Martes looked absolutely filthy yesterday out of the pen, if we can't find a true ace to trade for that he has to be a part of, I'd like to see what he can do in the pen for a while
Definitely. I'm just looking at longer-term... as teams are certainly going to want Whitley and/or Perez included in any potential major deals, and with a system that hasn't intentionally been able to develop a ton of plus starting pitching (Keuchel being the unintentional intentional, LMJ being totally intentional)... it would be great to get 2 or even 3 guys promoted that end up anchoring the next wave of starting pitching.
A rotation of Fulmer, LMJ, Whitley and Buskaukas will be very formidable. You could trade Martes, Perez, Paulino and still be in good shape. The org is still very deep in pitching prospects
Mushinski started today for Tri-City. Interesting, don't know whether they are trying to develop him that way or if it's just a measure of shortage of SPs. Matijevic hit his 2nd HR.
