Franklin Perez (Buies Creek) and Forrest Whitley (Quad Cities) are listed as the starting pitchers for their respective teams tonight.

The cynic in me says Whitley is just gonna get blown up after all that time off and discussion of where he's been.

The optimist says at least frankie Perez is always good for a great start.

Pretty sure he and the Astros knew where he was. I hadn't heard about his finger issue until this week, I thought his layoff was all weather related. I wouldn't read much of anything into his start tonight either way.

I really, really like Perez. Impressive what he's done in A ball being 4 years younger than the average player both last year and this.

Anybody know the status of these 4 guys:

    Kristian Trompiz
    Robert Kahana
    Scott Weathersby
    Brooks Marlow

They don't show as released but also aren't on any roster.

"Right index finger discomfort" was what I read, so they were being cautious with him, in addition to the cool weather. Can't find the link, may have been on a tweet or something, but I'm not about to attempt to try to search through twitter.

From the previous tweet, the wheels come off for Perez was no understatement.

He got the first 7 guys that he faced out , and then allowed: Double, single, infield single, double steal, walk, single, walk, double, sac fly. Then he was taken out, and the reliever allowed: Home run, walk, single, single, before a strikeout ended the game.

In other words, they had a 12 plate appearance stretch where they went 8-8 with 3 walks, and a sac fly. (and included 2 doubles plus a home run).

Daz just hit a 3-run homer. It's his 4th home run of the season.

    That's all the work Whitley got. 3 singles, 0BB, 48 P, 33 strikes

Daz 3-4 with 7 RBI, double short of the cycle. QC still scoring in the 8th, now 19-1

Preston Tucker has been awesome here in the early going, it's like he vanished from the face of the earth.

With Beltran and Gattis, he's pretty much an untenable player for us, but I still think he will be a good big league hitter. I would be curious what type of offers we have gotten for him. If a team gave him the primary DH job, I think he would produce good numbers,

D.J. Fisher hit his 5th homer of the year for Fresno.

Unfortunately, that's their only run of the game. They trail Reno 5-1 in the 7th.

May have been here, but I saw recently where a scout compared him to a more athletic Paul O'Neill. Really liked him back with the Reds & Yankees, so that made me happy.

I don't think his hit tool will ever be as good as O'Neil's was

I could see that. His hit tool would probably be closer to the Cincinnati version of Paul O'Neill with a little more swing and miss, methinks

I don't see where that comp would come from other than they're both lefty outfielders. O'Neill only struck out 14% of the time in his big league career. That's beyond anyone's wildest dreams for Fisher. O'Neill averaged ~20 HR/yr in the majors, Fisher may end up around there but has a significantly higher ceiling in that area. O'Neill never stole more than 22 bases in a year and averaged under 15; Fisher has 40 SB potential and if he doesn't average over 20 then it means he was not an everyday major leaguer.

My comp for Fisher (which in itself is a stretch) is a lefty Springer with a weaker arm.

I see Gregory Polanco as an interesting comp for DJ Fisher
