Hector Perez looks like a future back end reliever. Elite strikeout ability but I just don't see the walks coming down far enough to make him a viable starter. At 21 and about to be in AA, he'll be a starter until he reaches the majors but I expect him to end up in the pen; but he has elite closer upside.
Randy Cesar is a non-prospect but he has improved every month in High A. He will probably open up in AA next season, which will be where we'll find out if he can take the next step. Not sure if he can add the power he will need to be a viable major leaguer.
Mike Papierski hit a 2-run homer (2) for Tri-City, which is a nice sign for him... he was hitless in each of his last 5 games.
This guy just happened to be at the Buies Creek game. Tweet was RTed by Roman Ocumarez, one of the Astros' international scouts
Carmen Benedetti went 2-5 for Buies Creek today; both of his hits were RBI doubles. ATTN: @Buck Turgidson
Hope everything is going smoothly. I think he's a part of the future. Luhnow is a big fan obviously (thought about him over Appel, traded for him) I think his value to us outweighs his trade value at this point in his career. There will be an opportunity for him to compete with TWhite & JD for the AB's left in Beltrans absence. He should have the upper hand due to him being able to play a more than serviceable 3B, opposed to the other two not so much able to do that.
Only update I've seen is that he's weeks away. That's better than saying he's out for the season, but there aren't that many weeks left.
Jon Kemmer slashing @ Fresno: .302 .399 .539 .938 Of course there's Riley Ferrell, I can't pick 'em all.
Abraham Toro-Hernandez with another homer for Quad Cities. It's a solo shot which gives him 4 with Quad Cities and 10 home runs on the year.
Chuckie Robinson is on the radar now. Over 1.5 seasons he has an ops over 800 and wRC+ over 130. Don't know a ton about his defense but he's caught enough that he should be at least passable. If it weren't for Rogers he would probably be in High A with a chance to start next season in AA and really make some noise. The catching position has really taken a step forward in the system this year despite Stubbs disappointing. Stassi, Rogers, Robinson, and Toro have all had their stock go up, and Papierski was a good addition along with Perry. Also, Nerio Rodriguez one to watch down in the DSL. Hell, 3 other catchers in the system (Ritchie, Hermelyn, Figueroa) have more walks than strikeouts.
So it seems like his bat is doing just fine. How's his glove coming along? Trying to figure out what type of player he could end up as: -bat first, first division catcher -bat first, second division catcher -second division 3B (high standards for the hot corner offensively). -utility guy.
Jairo Solis allowed a solo homer, which was the only hit he allowed in his 3 innings for the GCL team. Solis also struck out 4. He's had a strong debut season that could put him in the back end of some top prospect lists to start 2018.
I think Marwin will get big money somewhere else after next season. With all the money becoming due to the Astros impending free agents, I don't see Luhnow shelling out a ton of cash for a utility guy, even though he's probably the best utility guy in all of MLB. I see Moran as the most likely candidate taking over as the utility guy.
