So put in other words....the size of the Astros bonus pool is the same amount that they used on Bregman last year. Time for Luhnow to earn his keep. Hopefully, the Astros can keep making Luhnow work hard in the draft with even more limited bonus pools.

The fact that he has landed on so many guys later in the draft gives me optimism. It will be harder to land multiple top prospects. We can look at the 2014 draft as a good indicator of what to expect, since we didn't sign Aiken.

I'm actually excited for this draft. There is going to be, a lot of major talent, at 17.

    Dalton Jefferies
Zack Collins catcher, heir apparent to Castro. Improved glove work, bat is Elite for a catcher. Mike Piazza like.

I don't agree with Keith Law a lot. Baseball America & MLB are more legit. They have more than one guy scouting prospects. He has AJ Puk at number 12 ?! I think he is no worse than number 6. As far as the High School players go, I don't have that much acknowledge on them but College Players I been following them closely this year.

    Collins
    Jefferies
    Grier
    Jones

Are 4 players to keep close eye on, for Astros. From 3rd rd to 10th, Astros will only have 2.2 million to spent. Most likely means no upper echelon HS players. They will most likely go HS in the 1st or 2nd rd.

I love Krook, I wouldn't put too much stock on his stats. He is barely coming back to 100 percent. By next year he should be salty.

Astros need some elite scouting to change me up big, because the majority nor league system has been depleted with trades and guys getting called up, others just falling flat in the progression department.

Still some exciting prospect in system, but not beaming with potential as a few years back.

Guys I'd like to see Houston take:

1-17: LHP Braxton Garrett, OF Buddy Reed, C Zach Collins
2-61: C Chris Okey, LHP Matt Krook
3-97: C Cooper Johnson, RHP Skyler Szynski
4-127: OF Garrett Williams, RHP Kyle Funkhouser
5-157: RHP Griffin Jax, LHP Tyler Stubblefield
    6-187: RHP Mitch Traver

I am not a fan of Collins because everything I have read cause me to believe he will not stick at catcher. Buddy Reed has never impressed me much. But I do like the idea of one of the high school pitchers - Garrett, Ian Anderson, Joey Wentz, and Forrest Whitley.

To get Okey or Krook to fall to 61 would be great, but I would also add Alec Hansen, who is dropping like a rock. If none are available, I would be happy with another HS LHP -Ragans, Rolison, Ogle, Luzardo, Belge, or Lodolo

A catcher in the 3rd round, and Funkerhouser available in the 4th would be great.

Yeah, but Collins bat is lethal. If he is the best player in the board, you draft him.

I will agree that Collins bat is pretty good. But that same bat is much better if he can stick at catcher than it is if he is a first baseman. Sorry, but I do not see it being the 17th best as a 1B.

Also, there are hundreds of examples where the best payer was not the one selected. The sentiment is nice, but quite often not applicable.

Collins to me compares to Kyle Schwarber and AJ Reed in terms of his value. If it was a sure thing that he could stick at catcher he'd be a surefire top 5 pick. As it is I think he'd be an excellent take at 17.
