Maybe ESPN is just seeing another "Westbrook rebounds and than dunks to lead OKC in a win against Houston"

Must be some Nash-level math geniuses at BSPN to be able to round off whole numbers.

This has got to be a BSPN screw up which is not unexpected.

Youd think a numbers oriented organization like Rockets would have dug up all the numbers and let Mike Antonio amd Harden know whats needed

    If not, i am disappoint

Going into tonight NBA.com had Harden's total off assists with points added together as 4501.

@heypartner mentioned that this was potentially including free throws created.

His FT created number going into tonight was 80.

Neither of those situations combined with his stats tonight add up to 4538.

    Someone is lying.

When we got James Harden in 2012, I was hoping for a solid Top 30-ish player in the league to build around.

Did not ever imagine he'd be one of the best players in the history of basketball.

Harden missing the record by 1 point would be the final kick in the nuts.

    I demand a recount!

Let's say that the NBA.com number includes FT's like HP suggested, Harden would've entered tonight with 4421 not 4501 and therefore tonights output would've got him up to 4476, nowhere near the number that ESPN came up with.

If that 4501 number was right going in, the Harden would've got

    4501
    +27 (scored tonight)
    ____________
    4528
    +28 (assisted tonight)
    _____________
    4556

    All the numbers check out.

The number is either 4476, or 4556.

    4538 is a complete fabrication.

Here are screenshots in case ESPN tries to cook the books

^ that column highlighted includes the FTs created.

To check, just use Advance Filter to pick one game and count the 3 pointers in the PBP. It doesn't add up to that AST PTS Created column. It's off by the FT Ast column.

Wouldn't the Pts and Ast Pts Created stats on NBA.com be the authoritative stats for the NBA?

Not if they don't fit ESPN's narrative. Then they just make up numbers instead.

Has anyone in the media other that people on this board confirmed Harden broke the record?

Not if the column for AST POINTS CREATED includes the column for FT AST, which I'm pretty confident it does. Archibald's numbers don't include FTs points.

Why would points created off free throws not count? Are they not points??

It's not worth arguing if they count or not, because Archibald's numbers do not include them. So, to give them to Harden would be unfair. I don't think there is a way to go back and figure out FTs for Archibald, because it would require play by play.

I'm also confused, does anyone know where we can find the stats ourselves so we can stat check?

I can't figure out where to find a point produced off assists stat...
