Q: David Fizdale just said you had a great practice. How did it go?

A: Yeah, there was an emphasis on getting out on the floor and running, Obviously, part of my problem is my knees are sore and it’s been frustrating not feeling like I’m 100 percent and not having the explosiveness, but I think a lot of it is mental. So today I just tried to block a lot of that out and really sprint, really cut, crash the offensive glass, do all those little things that I used to do. I was very productive today. Obviously, I’m not the fastest guy, I’m not the most athletic guy, but I’m smart and I know angles and I work extremely hard so I think if I can just block out the whole knee injury thing in my head and just play, I think it will be much better just like it was today in practice.

Q: Is it more mental? Or is there still a big physical element?

A: I’m physically in pain. I’m well enough to play, obviously, but I’m going to go through soreness. The good thing is I’ve been through this already and it’s nothing I’m not used to. And I know my body better now. But, yeah, I think a lot of it is mental. Nobody wants to play well more than I do. I know a lot of people are getting frustrated and, trust me, they’re not more frustrated than I am. I’m in the gym every single day. The worst part is, when you have surgeries like this, this summer I could work on my body, I could work on my strength, I could work on my conditioning, but I couldn’t really work on my game, so now I’m basically working on my game in NBA games and it’s showing. I’m missing a lot of shots, I’m missing shots that I usually make.

Q: Is it In your head? Last game, after the Memphis fans gave you an exaggerated cheer for hitting a shot, you bowed to them.

A: That was almost, like, sarcastic. If they’re frustrated, multiply that by 100 and that’s how frustrated I am. That was just me trying to be funny.

Q: But it can’t be good to hear the exaggerated cheers.

A: Look, I came here, and I had high expectations. I’m a max player, I’m making a lot of money, and I'm not playing up to that standard right now. I understand everything. At the same time, I understand how hard I’m working, I understand how good a player I’ve been in my career and there’s no doubt in my mind I’m going to get back to that level.

Q: How good can you be this year?

A: I think I can be very good this year. With the guys that we have, that’s the reason I came here, to play with these . . .

Q: But you, yourself. How good can you be?

A: Yeah, look man, I can’t see the future, I take it game by game. I don’t know how many minutes I’m playing tomorrow, how much I’m going to play in the playoffs. But the guys that matter, the guys that track the sports science, the guys that are in the front office, the coaches, they see the progress. The people I train with every day — they do all these numbers, all this metric stuff — they track how I was in Dallas when I was playing really well for those three months, and I’m right there, I’m even ahead in some categories.

Q: Some have said you should shut it down for the year.

A: Everyone has their own opinion, you guys get paid to have an opinion, and I respect that. But those opinions don’t matter. The belief that my coaches have in me, and that my trainers who work with me every day, that see the progress, is what matters to me.

Q: So shutting it down for the year has never crossed your mind?

A: No, no, no, no. I love basketball. Basketball is everything to me. I’m not just going to shut it down because I’m struggling. What kind of coward would I be if I did that? I’m going to continue to work hard, I’m going to continue to bust my ass and try and be the best player I can become. (Shutting it down) is not going to happen unless I have to have surgery or something.

Q: Do you know in advance when you’re playing?

A: It’s tough. So, right now, there’s a back-to-back in Dallas and Houston, and I want to play both. The plan was to play both, but depending on how the minutes go and everything else. That’s what the most frustrating part is, it’s not up to me. If I go, like, 24-26 minutes in Dallas, there’s a good chance they won’t let me play in Houston.

Q: You’ll definitely play in Dallas?

A: No doubt I’ll play in Dallas.

Q: That would be the first back-to-back all season, right?

A: Yes, and you have to ask the trainers on that. I have no idea. They tell me the day of the game. I’ll text them and ask them at shoot-around, "How many minutes do I got tonight?" And then I figure it out on the fly. So, during the game, I’ll kind of see. Fizdale has been good at that, knowing when to get me out, or if I feel good I’ll give him a little hand signal to keep playing. Part of it is for me to have success I’m going to have to go through these struggles, I’m going to have to miss these shots, I’m going to have these bad games to have good games. It’s better now to shake off the rust, during the regular season, than it is in the postseason, that’s when it really matters. I think the biggest thing is, you see how good our team can be even with me struggling like this.

Q: Would you be booed in both Dallas and Houston?

A: Every single time I go there. Every single time, every time. In Houston, it’s kind of old. It’s, “C’mon, that was years ago.”

Q: You still host Q & As on Twitter, even though you know a good number of the questions will be things like, “Why do you stink?” Why do you keep putting yourself out there?

A: That’s what it’s for. It’s social media, it’s to be social. It’s to show things that you like, it’s to show things that you do, the people you hang out with, the places you go. Just because I’m struggling on the court doesn’t mean I’m not going to have a life off the court.

Q: But you know you’ll get criticized.

A: As soon as I start putting the ball in the basket, nobody is going to care what I do. I can do whatever I want. Basketball comes first always, it comes first to me. And as a fan, I’d do the same thing. I would talk crap to people. But that’s part of my personality.

Q: So you don’t mind the abuse?

A: Obviously, you want to be loved. I just think these people who say things don’t know who I am, don’t know me personally. It’s easy to kind of hate from afar. Like I’ve said, I don’t post that I'm here every morning at 9 a.m., three hours before practice starts at noon, that’s just not what I do. I show the things that are off the court, the things that are social. I think it affords a platform to show you outside of basketball, which gives you a look. and obviously that’s offending some people in some ways because I’m not playing well. But that’s just ignorant. It doesn’t mean I’m not working just as hard or harder than everyone else.

Q: Bella Thorne got a lot of attention sitting courtside the other night. Do you enjoy that? Do you like it that every time a woman shows up in your life it’s on TMZ?

A: It’s kind of an invasion of privacy in a way.

Q: But she was sitting right there, in the front row.

A: Those are my seats. My best friend sits there every game, too, nobody is reporting that. Obviously, just what she does, she’s a famous actress, people are going to talk about her, but at the end of the day, these are just my friends who want to support me and come see me play. They’re people I like hanging out with when I’m not playing basketball. Just because they’re famous, or they’re celebrities, it doesn’t mean I’m not going to let them come to Memphis and watch me do what I do.

Q: On radio, people were deciding whether they are Team Bella or Team Savannah.

A: That’s crazy. Listen, both of them are my friends, I’m cool with both of them, and they’re trying to make this thing, like, they’re going to fight over me, and who’s going to win. I see all that stuff. But it’s not like that. It’s very casual, they’re both really, really cool chicks, and as I’ve said, that’s not my priority.

Q: Have you ever claimed a girlfriend? Like, “This is my girlfriend?”

A: Yeah, I actually just got out of a two-year relationship in October with an actual girlfriend.

    Q: But not now?

A: No girlfriend right now. I have a lot on my plate right now.

Q: Who do you turn to when times get hard?

A: My parents have been here twice, my best friend Pausha lives with me here. I have great friends; I have a small circle of friends. I have two friends I grew up with in Orlando that are my best friends I talk to every day, and then I have my group in L.A., guys I spend every summer with. When things are good, they’re with me; when things are bad, they’re with me. It’s just like anybody else.

Q: When this is all over, do you think the Grizzlies will think they got their money’s worth from your $94 million contract?

A: I think so. I think we’re five months into a four-year contract. I think it’s a little dramatic and a little early to judge someone coming off two very serious surgeries, in a new city, on a new team, a new everything. It's very early to judge that. The upper management, when I talk to Chris Wallace, when I talk to Joe Abadi, those guys tell me, “Look, we brought you here for four years.”

Q: Does it help knowing Vince Carter went through injury struggles and is now playing well?

A: It’s unbelievable. First of all, he was one of my favorite players growing up, so for him to be my backup is shocking and crazy to me. But he’s been awesome. I work with him every day after practice. He’s the one who is always in my head, “Stay confident, there’s a reason you are here, you’re an unbelievable player.” But it’s everybody on the team. They see it every day, they see me rehabbing, they see me working out. Obviously, they also see me stressed, they see me frustrated, but they also see the time I’m putting in, and they believe in me. That’s the reason I came here, to play with these unselfish guys that just want to win. And they’re willing to do whatever to help me win and to get better and to get back to playing the way they know I can play.

Chandler's reaction to the Houston boos: "Come on, that was years ago."

Well, yes, it's been years since you were a Rocket, Chandler; but you have a douchiness about you.

I normally don't hate on a guy's money (switching to the third person narrative), but the contract Memphis gave a guy with bad knees.......? Can't fault his agent, that's for sure. He or she deserves 10% of that contract, not the standard 3 or 4% or whatever it is.

LMAO! The person who interviewed Parsons is not even trying to hide his trolling.

What a life Chandler has built for himself. Money, women, and the ire of 3 cities.

But seriously, how do you get hated in 2 cities and sarcastically cheered in the city you play for? Matt Barnes, and Draymond Green don't get that much hate. There's a douchebag threshold that's been breached here. Chandler Parsons stands alone.

    yeah STFU

You're always in the treatment room. The only balls you're putting in the basket are the fried potato balls.

Portions has always been a has been ever since he left Houston. Couldn't happen to a nicer dude.

Everytime I check the Grizz boxscore and see Parsons' pathetic stat line, remark to myself he is being paid the max, shake my head and think how glad I am that this is not a Rockets problem.

It was a pretty great interview when viewed through that motivation. Interviewer starts with basketball talk, implies Chandler should hang it up this season, and extracts a weak "metric stuff" defense. And then Chandler puts out the nugget about basketball being everything to him.

Soon after, the interviewer pivots to questions about hot girls/twitter and has Parsons spit out this gem:

It’s social media, it’s to be social. It’s to show things that you like, it’s to show things that you do, the people you hang out with, the places you go.

Call me old fashioned, but it's a bad look to be doing all that after signing that contract and being a big zero on the court for your new team.

For the rest of it, Parsons is constantly reverting back to emphasizing that basketball is a priority after acting like a child. Frankly, its embarrassing and if I were a Grizzlies fan I would be constantly berating him on twitter to rest those 94 million dollar knees for the season. But I'm not, so **** him.

Not a bad interview, he doesn't give a f*** what people think about him because at the end of the day he's getting paid, lives a baller lifestyle, and is good looking.

And he gets to look at this girl tonguing his balls among other things every day. She probably licks his butthole too.
