I'd take Nathan Kirby and Dansby Swanson as of now that would be a great draft and guys who could contribute to the MLB team quickly
Swanson is a HS SS? Why take him when 1.) we have correa, and 2.) he's out of HS, so he'll take longer probably to reach the majors
Swanson's really a 2b, but moved to short this year due to the roster at Vandy. Slide Correa over to 3b, which will happen at some point, and you have a very nice left side of the infield.
Not saying Correa isn't the real deal (or that he will even eventually be a 3B), but they should never ever make draft decisions based on what the current system or MLB roster has. Drafting for "need" has you picking guys like Chris Burke, Max Sapp, DDJr and Jio Mier over other "talents"... it also possibly prevents you from drafting Lance Berkman. They should take the best talent available... they'll always be able to find a place for them if they're the real deal.
Ha. Max Sapp. What's amazing is what the draft class looked like after that pick. We could have had Hank Conger already! But, the point being, there were not too many hits in that draft after our pick.
Sure... but you also cannot say that Sapp was the "best player available" either. He was a singable (Drayton) player that happened to play a position of "need" for the organization at the time (having just gone through Melusky, still suffering with Ausmus, and running through a backup catcher every year). Ironically, they go out and draft Castro a few years later for similar reasons.
The Astros will have $17,289,200 available in their bonus pool. Individual slot values are as follows: 1-2: $7,420,100 1-5: $4,188,700 1-37: $1,668,700 2-46: $1,325,700 3-79: $765,600 4-109: $522,700 5-139: $391,500 6-169: $293,100 7-199: $219,600 8-229: $176,000 9-259: $164,200 10-289: $153,400

Dansby Swanson is a SS at Vandy. He is sporting a 1.107 OPS. Kyle Tucker is a HS OF. Dillon Tate (RHP at UC Santa Babera) catches my eye. 1.34 ERA 0.81 WHIP 2.37 BB/9 9.94 K/9 4.19 K/BB
this may be (and hopefully so) the last time we'll have picks this high. we really need can't-miss guys. i really hope a few start to pull away and separate themselves from the pack, otherwise tanking is relatively worthless.
Not that I know a damn thing about a damn thing, but of all the college pitchers Tate is the guy I've been paying attention to. Last I heard about Swanson is that he's a super/superduper utility guy. All kinds of solid, but no star potential.
No chance Brady Rodgers goes first. Brendan Rodgers is thought to be the leader, especially after Matuella from Duke had TJS
