The A's got Jon freaking Lester for Yoenis Cespedes. OPS wise, these 2 are extremely comparable. Bats are at a premium.

Big difference is one of them plays defense, and teams won't pay big for pending FAs (which is why Lester didn't go for a lot more).

I would deal Cosart and Chris Carter for what you can get. They aren't making too big of a difference on this ball club.

Cosart is dealable, but I still think he'll be a good BoR (oxymoron?) guy. Granted the Astros have a lot of guys I think fit the mold of BoR.

    It isn't anything new.

His attitude and immaturity was an issue with the Phillies and Astros in the minor leagues.

The difference is that he is now a big leaguer and has shown no signs of maturing. He lacks discipline, he does not work as hard as the Astros would like and he does not listen to his coaches. That doesn't even get into his issues with his teammates.

He is very similar to Tim Redding and Curt Schilling in that way.

I know Cosart isn't popular on CF

And I know he can be hard to watch sometimes (for those who can even watch)

But, we are 11-9 when he takes the hill the year, not bad on a team that is twenty games under .500

His last four starts have been really bad....but before those 4, he had TWELVE starts in a row of 3 earned runs or less, and in 10 of those 12 he completed at least 6 full innings, into the 7th at least in 7 of them.....

And he is just 24 years old.....

Now, i'm not saying you don't deal him if the return is right, but you certainly don't just move him to move him, thinking he isn't making any difference

Funny you mention Schilling, when we traded him, he was 24, and had poor command

ON MLB Network - Peter Gammons references how some teams are in win-now mode and how prospects are overvalued while "already major league talent" are undervalued. He even blurts out a mention how teams can't wait till 2017 and how the Astros have already won that year????

It's interesting, because its hard to predict how some of these prospects will pan out. I have heard some Peter Gammons predictions and he's usually spot on.

It is a jab at the SI article dubbing us 2017 champs, not Gammons being positive about us.

Yeah, I know. But consensus is usually around the ballpark....

Sidenote: if your the astros... Do you add Price when he's locked up for next year? think about it... they are just minor league prospects...

As long as Springer and Correa are not involved, i'd love to see Price in Houston

    Agreed.

I would give up 2 top pitching prospects (we have plenty) and a bat

I wouldn't, because I don't expect to contend next season, and I don't think we'd be able to re-sign him.

If Correa hadn't got hurt, I'd be more tempted. I'd feel like we had a team on the cusp of big things.

I think I'm the only one here who likes Cosart. I'd be disappointed if he was traded.

Not many of us, but I like him a lot. I think because of what has happened to the organization the last several years, too many people don't realize how young 24 years old in the majors is......

If we move Cosart, the return better be really big, and major league ready

Exactly. Give me a very good young corner OFer or 3B and we can talk.
