Here's an interview with him. It's in French, but once fed through google translate theres some interesting tidbits. http://www.basketusa.com/news/22976...e-de-pouvoir-travailler-avec-hakeem-olajuwon/ He's excited to work with Hakeem. Dwight is one of his favorite players. He dominated Cory Jefferson in a workout. Spurs wanted him at 30. He wants to come over now, but wouldn't mind staying in Europe for a year.
OKC did it too. Teams have more leverage lower in the draft because (A) the team may not care if you don't sign because the team's good and (B) the player isn't generally good enough have leverage on the team. Not sure how it would work here though.
I do not think Ibaka was that skinny when he came over How good is the Swiss national team? Never heard of them.
For what it's worth, draft express had him ranked as the #11 prospect in the draft, and they are usually good about evaluating foreign players. Really like this pick.
What incentives can we offer to keep this guy happy in Europe for 1 or 2 years? How can we influence his training: nutrition, weight room and skills?
You're talking about 2nd round guys vs a 1st round talent. When have we ever spent a 1st round pick on a player that didn't come to the NBA?
Need to sell him on the FACT that he isn't ready to get playing time in the NBA and won't. I think all it is, is a kid who is excited to be drafted who has his heart set on playing. I also think it is a fact that if he improves his fundamentals and at least develops a hook shot there will be a roster spot.
