Strong is not off to a good start. Bungled expectations all around when the UT-Austin branch fan base was expecting a Saban-like coach and Saban-like results. Reality is harsh

    Haters gonna hate.

It's actually quite funny. I get most of my UT news from UT haters.

People are judging Strong too quickly. He's in a S***** situation by becoming the head coach with less than a month to recruit. Wait until next year before you start criticizing his recruiting. As for losing the recruit next year, is the fan base really concerned with losing the 40th overall guard and 669th ranked player?? Send him to Auburn, please. ;)

General consensus among the recruiting-obsessed is that this was addition by subtraction. Good kid that may turn out to be a good player, but he was offered WAY too early.

The thing is, in recruiting it is tough to overcome a bad recruiting class. Heck, look at A&M's defense. Sherman had some aweful defensive recruiting classes and left that side of the ball empty. Luckily we had JFF to exceed expectations and enable to let Sumlin push a winning program along with playing in the SEC into a couple of very good (great so far this year) recruiting classes.

Y'all must have forgot to say Saban should come "because we're Texas"

This jabroni is going to TAMU, man. He'll be the first true freshman to amass 6 sacks just by flexing his abs. If he puts some grease on his stomach he could give Matt Schaub a stroke by doing a situp.

Guessing that's Myles Garrett? Yeah, he will be a beast. Only a notch below Clowney in athletic freakiness.

    Sumlin is building a monster.

Looks like that move to the SEC was genius. I guess A&M won't be "Arkansas Lite" after all. Whew.

On a more serious note, I wonder how Strong's disciplinarian style is going to turn away some of the higher profile recruits? I think it's good to get some discipline in there after Mack, but it may be too much. Some of these guys want to wear Dr Dre Beats to class and have no intention on graduating. Mack never enforced anything like this which is one reason why VY struggled so much in the pros and with his finances. No discipline.

Their 2014 class is still ranked behind that of Alabama and about equal to LSU and Tennessee. Perspective is helpful here...

The #2 ranked recruiting class with a 5 star QB coming in and two 5 star receivers to go along with another 5 star sophmore receiver?

I'd say he's building a monster, especially with his offense. These guys are going to light it up.

Sumlin vs Saban - Sumlin's laissez-faire approach is a differentiator IMO. Although these two schools rarely compete for the same guys and Bama is on another planet.

Sumlin vs Strong - Sumlin's kaissez-faire approach will again be a differentiator for kids looking to stay in Texas. A differentiator is good to have, it doesn't always mean you win out but it's good to have. And I do think kids will prefer Sumlin's approach. Ultimately there are plenty of Texas kids to go around for both schools to succeed. We just need to keep the kids out of Oklahoma and Oregon.

yeah but bama still put distance between them with a superior class.

it's improvement for A&M, but they're still behind a chief conference foe

Nevermind the fact that it's perilous to talk smack based on what's accomplished in February.

True. But these big time recruiting classes typically turn into wins. Just look at what Texas did all those years with Mack Brown as coach. His players kept him in the top 10 year in and and year out for the most part. The guy was a fraud as a coach as we all know now.
