Brando - I don't want to derail this thread any further and I honestly respect your opinions and I'll stop here. However, in 2011 I called Mack Brown a Fraud and then in 2013 Barking Carnival called him a fraud - for the same reasons. I don't deserve to be called a troll for simply being ahead of my time. My Post from 2011, which is beautiful: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6433835&postcount=797 The Barking Carnival Article from 2013: Mack Brown: The $5 Million Fraud read more: http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2013...-for-retirement-texas-longhorns-football-2013
One more thing, Brando2101, this is mind blowing: Mack Brown recruited 60 four and five star recruits to UT in the last four years. ONE (Jeffcoat) of those 60 became a 1st Team Big 12 selection. Talk about resting on your fat cat laurels. Any Questions?
Not to say that Mack is not a clown, but sure I have a question - Alex Okafor? First team AA/All big 12 in both 2011 and 2012?
Acho in 2010. Okafor, Whitaker, Vaccaro in 2011. Okafor and Vaccaro in 2012. Jeffcoat and Fera in 2013.
It's silly to use selective stats like SacTown is doing, but I think he's still technically right. All of those guys were 2009 or before. It's dumb to complain that 2012 and 2013 (current freshman and sophomores) recruits haven't made all big 12 teams, so really he should look at the 2008-2011 classes.
Thank You. The stat I posted is still 100% accurate unless someone can find one I missed other than Jeffcoat. I don't think my stats are selective. I'm just going back 4 years - which is a good selection because many agree Mack got fat and lazy around this time.
It's not a good selection because, despite the Manziels and Winstons, it's still not the norm for freshman and sophomores to play a lot and get end of season accolades. Examining the 2008-2011 classes would be a better indicator of development since those guys have actually been on campus receiving coaching from the staff. The numbers still wouldn't look great on a % basis, but you wouldn't be able to get the shock value of saying ONE.
The point is that their is no causation to the conclusion you are drawing from the stats. Malcom Brown was a 5 star who just became a starter this past season. You are drawing performance conclusions that require underclassman to beat out seniors for those coveted all conference spots which is difficult. It's sloppy statistical analysis.
Okafor was an all american in 2012, and LMFAO at judging the 2013 recruiting class about not making all conference as freshmen or redshirt freshmen. If that's what he actually meant, than that's even stupider than forgetting Okafor insofar as most all-conference players are juniors or seniors, not freshmen.
I love my longhorns and am thankful for what Mack (05) did but the last 4 years was terrible. He was getting paid 5.4 million to win 8 games a year at Texas which is unacceptable. He was a great recruiter that got extremely arrogant and didn't even evaluate talent in 2009 and 2010 by his own words. They looked at the rankings without evaluating. In those two classes he had some of the worst busts you could have had. If you don't believe me here is the 2009 class. http://www.burntorangenation.com/re...ass-garrett-gilbert-alex-okafor-kenny-vaccaro This could not happen and that is why Mack was forced out. Mack was never a great X's and O'x coach and relied heavily on great Assistant's. When you hire Manny Diaz and Bryan Harsin as your coordinators you deserve to be fired.
Look, I'm all for arguing about sports but this topic has been discussed to death. It's even less relevant now that Mack is gone. Let's put this to rest. It shouldn't even be in this thread. No one at this point is going to change their minds about anything. At the end of the day we call all agree to be thankful for the national championship no matter who deserves the credit.
