Yep... too bad those "Aiken is the next Kershaw" predictions couldn't possibly have a chance of becoming true.
They can't get rid of the intentional walk. We won't have plays like this: http://youtu.be/xw0w9rhNtCk or this: http://youtu.be/a6YzVvtxoaY
Well, history does not look to fondly on those guys when they fail with the bigger club team... at that point, they go the route of Paul Depodesta and basically have to start all over again before a team buys into their schtick. If anything, this probably is either a money grab or he truly doesn't feel the Rays have a shot of competing now that they no longer have a Cy Young and MVP candidate being promoted every year.
Because finishing with the best record over a 162 game season, but losing a flukeish playoff series 3-1 makes you not elite? Yeah, they really need to upgrade their starting pitching from Kershaw... he's a bum who cost them the playoffs.
One year? Call me when they do that for a decade. Before this little run, they were the NL doormat and laughingstocks. Theyre not elite. The Cardinals are elite. 90s Yankees were elite.
Not sure if we're talking about the same team. The Dodgers have made the playoffs 6 of the last 10 years. They made the LCS in three of those years. Throughout that time, the only year they were close to being a "doormat" was 2005 when they lost 91 games... and even then they weren't a last place team (and haven't been a last place team since 1992). And if your marker for success is to be at the level of the Cardinals now, or the Yankees of the 90's, basically everybody else in baseball since are "doormats and laughingstocks").
Yeah, Friedman is highly overrated. His drafts the past few years have been atrocious and that's even with having tons of picks. I thought he sold low on Price even though Smyly is decent and Adames has potential. Not a fan of the contracts he has handed out lately in DeJesus, Loney, Escobar, etc. either. He's good at building bullpens on the cheap, though, which the Dodgers badly need help with. So he'll bring improvement there at least.
