Luhnow had a show on 790 before the game tonight... said to not expect Singleton to be up any time soon. Spent half his response stating how he knew he'd be asked this question non-stop the second after Springer got promoted.
I continue to be impressed with Ronny Torreyes. We got him for basically nothing (IFA slot money) because Luhnow hasn't shown interest in spending big money on IFAs. He's currently hitting .324/.361/.426 at AAA at age 21 with a 4.0% K rate and greater than >1.00 ISO. All while playing legit 2B and being able to cover SS in a pinch. He's essentially a free Altuve-lite from the Cubs.
Because he's dependent on a high average, similar to Altuve which is hard to maintain. Not many players survive when they don't have power or speed.
I've heard he has good defense at 2B. If he is truly a plus defensively, he may give Altuve a run for his money in a year or two. I'm not expecting much from Torreyes, but I'm not too high on Altuve.
Well since our offense is really clicking on all cylinders, I can't see a need for a guy who's has a 1.200 OPS in AAA.
The hope is with our top prospects that they will be so old when their arbitration years are complete that we can resign them on the cheap. 35-36 year olds are not demanding big money.
I don't know if this tongue in cheek, but I think the Astros are going to try to maximize the number of years Springer, Singleton, Correa, and Ruiz have under club control together. So while Springer and Singleton may have been delayed slightly, I am not sure Correa and Ruiz will be delayed as much. I suspect they will be delayed a few games if an big date is around the corner, but I don't expect them to be delayed half a season.
Yeah I left that part out. JD was having an amazing run in AAA before being called up. 10 HRs, 1 3B, and 3 2Bs out of 20 hits.

He's a Cardinals-type guy. Doesn't have flashy tools but he could have a 10+ year career with a couple seasons of double digits steals. Last year was the first season he didn't have double digit steals. The Cards almost corner the market in non-flashy, productive MLers. Guys like Brendan Ryan, Skip Schumacher, David Eckstein, etc... all have had productive careers. And Altuve has had back-to-back seasons of 30+ SB's; wouldn't say he lacks speed.
I expect the opposite. Bring the talent in steady waves yearly. That's the Cardinals way. They get at least 2-3 players out of their farm system every year but they never empty the pipeline to rush guys. Especially not their star prospects (Taveres, Miller, Wong, etc..)
