I like to take the pulse before people see pre-season and stuff just so we can something to look back and compare afterwards to gauge how our emotions change. Feel free to use this thread for general discussion as well. We know the schedule and we know the people competing for the roster. Give some thoughts on what you think will shake out in camp and preseason.
I voted better than .500, but no playoffs. I expect Fitz to be better than expected by most, the run game to bounce back and the defense to be stout, but I think in the end we just won't be good enough at QB to pull out some wins that would get us into the playoffs. I'm hoping though that we can be like the Bengals. Have a stout defense and an offense that does what it has to do to win even though it's not very dynamic.
5-7 wins seems ideal given the unknown regarding the QB situation mixed with the fairly easy schedule. If the run game and defense can be top 10, I can see .500 or better.
I'm curious to see what the Texans' 2-deep will be. WR1 - AJ, Martin WR2 - Hopkins, Posey LT - Brown, Q'berry LG - Su'a Filo, Jones C - Meyers, Jones RG - Brooks, Jones RT - Williams, Newton TE - Graham, Fiedorowicz FB - Smelley, Prosch RB - Foster, Brown DE - Watt, Crick DT - Nix, Powe DE - Jamison, Crick LOLB - Mercilus, Williams LILB - Reed, Tuggle RILB - Cushing, Tarpinian ROLB - Clowney, Sapp LCB - Jackson, Lemon RCB - Joseph, Bouye Nickel - Harris, Means SS - Swearinger, Pleasant FS - Lewis, Clemons ?
7 wins is a complete failure this season IMO. The AFC sucks and our division is mediocre to put it nicely. We have a cup cake schedule going against all the other scrub teams from last season and get to play the paltry NFC East as opposed to the mighty NFC West as we did last season. Should be a nice turn around this season.
I feel like there is more upside for this team then given credit for. Even though last year was a disaster there were A LOT of close games. Given that every aspect of our team is better this year (even QB) I would expect the team to wins some/most of those close games. That coupled with our strength of schedule and players returning from injury wouldn't be shocked to see this team win between 9-12 games. I'm know better than to get my hopes up though.....I still can't wait for the season to start.
I truthfully don't know..at all...but a team without a QB looks like a team winning about 4 games in my estimation.
My guess is that the D will be strong. Since Romeo will continue to use the 3-4, the Texans D personnel from last year should be a reasonable fit for the new 3-4 scheme. Romeo (like Wade) has a good track track record of getting his D playing well. Expectations should be a top 5-10 defense. If OBie can get the O back on track, the Texans could be a 9-10 win team. OBie's new O schemes and new QB might take time to gell. I do expect the Texans to be generally a more physical team next year, especially on the O end. Less finesse, more smash mouth.
I have no expectations but I'm genuinely excited to see what this defense can do and how players will be used. I'm fine losing 16 games if the final scores are like 0-13. I'm hoping we see a legitimate hybrid defense with players moving all over the field and complex, agile schemes designed to keep the opponent on their toes. That'll be fun and that's all I need to be satisfied watching Texans football this year.
I think we will be a lot better than people expect. Division winners. Fitzpatrick will be a big reason why
Not a whole of lot of excitement or expectations going into the season. We were crap at the tail end of the previous year and carried into last year. I'll say a decent bounce back to 5-7 wins.
Last year we lost 9 games by one score or less....with a more difficult schedule than we'll have this year. it wouldn't take a lot of improvement to see a lot of improvement by way of wins.
